To be clear, it is 100% possible that this actually happened as told but the probability of it is so small and the wording is so specifically tailored to the language of people who have this particular niche interest that you should at least clock it as "maybe this person just wants attention"

Sorry, but if you see stuff like this and your first thought is anything other than "this sounds like it is completely fabricated specifically to appeal to me" you are incredibly gullible

And yet I have not seen a single actual preview anywhere during my normal routine. Not sure there's a solution here but it feels like a problem that needs to be addressed.

The key thing here is that I would absolutely watch a 1:30 trailer for a movie if it just magically appeared in front of me while I was on the Internet. Like I've seen fifty articles specifically about Digger but I have zero interest in actually clicking through and reading about it.

I wonder how much, if any, of the trouble with movies is that no one knows how to market anymore. Like 90% of the places on the web I see ads are social media, news articles, and search results. But not once have I seen an actual trailer for Digger.

Yeah, the problem is that no one will willingly do so.

So how are most discovery strategies that seek to impose a burden on the other side, whether it be cost or time, "zealous advocacy"? You're not advocating for your client by burying the opposing party in a bunch of documents or purposefully waiting until the deadline to turn stuff over.

Dispute resolution is simply taking facts and having a neutral third party determine who is liable for some violation of another person's rights; it is, foundationally, a search for truth. This is true even in an adversarial system like the United States has.

Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 4h
I think if you accept the premise that litigation is just a form of dispute resolution (which is not controversial at all), it takes minimal reasoning ability to figure out that the definition of "zealous advocacy" most people use is idiotically incorrect.

Went to Bass Pro Shops and started chatting with a sales guy for Hyatt or Hilton that invited us to participate in a raffle. After five minutes of his pitch and me looking for a way out, he finally got to the bit where he says it's a timeshare thing and I just turned around and walked off.

You have made two conclusory statements in this thread without a single explanation as to how you got to those. Might I suggest you turn on reasoning traces?

This is what I've been trying to tell people but they keep pretending that nothing in life has any wiggle room for inaccuracy when, in reality, there are a lot of times when having something that's even 50% accurate is better than having nothing at all.

Yeah, any aversion I have to using the term "thinking" is purely because the discourse around LLMs may use that term in ambiguous ways
110
Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
lol I just looked up what she posted before she blocked me and I don't think I have ever described them as "thinking".

Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I think we have to define a third category of people who refuse to acknowledge reality and put those types of people in there.
120
Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
You're responding to someone who refuses to acknowledge that LLMs can search the web, there's zero chance you're going to convince her of anything.

Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Yeah, I have no strong opinions on a subject I know many people have spent their entire life studying, it's just become interesting to me specifically because LLMs are starting to muddy the waters.

Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Right, and my theory is that may have implications for whether something is conscious or not. Still something I'm thinking through though (obv)
000
Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I still don't think that's enough though, because this would apply to a bunch of interconnected neurons sitting in a petri dish.
100
Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Yes, but combine that with the clock cycle concept you just mentioned. A bit flip, absent the clock cycle, does not cause any downstream effects. I think that's the distinction in my head. This is all coming from an article I read like 10 years ago about possible quantum effects in neurons.
200
Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Yeah, I think that is part of the distinction in my head, combined with potential susceptibility to external stimuli operating on the neurons directly. Will continue to mull this over.
120
Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Do we know whether external stimuli can directly trigger neurons in the brain to fire? For example, could some random subatomic particle traveling through the body interact in some way with a neuron in a way that generates a physical result?
110
Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Yeah, this is the part that I haven't really fully formulated yet.
100
Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Right, but can you make an AI that just spontaneously comes up with a thought with no external input? I'm just not sure what that looks like.
000
Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I was typing my post that covers this when you replied lol IMO that's still input-directed, even if its the LLM's own input. It feels like human thoughts can be more spontaneously generated.
200
Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Like even if I run an LLM in some kind of infinite loop, it's still operating based solely on input from something, even if that input is its own output. I'm not sure if a human brain can come up with a truly spontaneous thought, but it seems qualitatively different in this regard.
000
Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I think a bigger distinguishing feature is that a human brain is never actually "at rest," meaning your brain is active and can have random thoughts without your specific direction. An LLM cannot simply spawn a thought without specific direction.

I think the irony of our reactionary politics these days is that a president that was genuinely centrist and pushed policies from both sides based on merit instead of vibes would have an incredibly low approval rating.

Anthropic should train Claude to say "bet" for one version just because of how funny it would be to watch the social media fallout

I have no words to express how insane it is that they took the supplement marketing formula and applied it to a a coffee maker

As far as I've seen, he hasn't actually made an argument to counter. It's purely speculation...an attempt to predict the future with no actual analysis behind the predictions. Beyond that, he's assigned it like a 95% possibility, which is simply stupid beyond belief and needs no rebuttal.

"A lot of these are more of a rapeplay fantasy than an actual rape fantasy, but for purposes of this post we don’t need to get into those particular weeds." The choice to have that be the third sentence is an interesting one.

Even if we accept that as true, it's still hilarious that he thought I should know that from the fact that his profile said he was an actuary.
010
Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
No, he was just talking about how he got into being a basketball data analyst after being an actuary, because he is "versatile". Somewhat amusingly, he did say he built all of the databases and ETL processes from ingestion to the database that supported the frontend, so he kinda implied that.

Sorry you missed the four replies to your single post. Not sure what the final straw was but might have been me laughing at him for bragging about his career change from being an actuary to a data analyst.

"You're acting as if it is some insurmountable task one person couldn't do" Nope, that's not it. "You built a REST API for a startup and couldn't handle it and had to outsource" What?

Sorry, but as someone who splits his time between software engineering and being a lawyer, you're gonna have to do a lot better than a career change from being an actuary to being a data analyst lmao

There are few things I enjoy about interviewing tech people but one of my favorites is asking them for specifics about the things they've done only to find out that the summary on the resume is the deepest it goes.

Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Then why did you suggest I go read your LinkedIn if you knew it had no additional information beyond what is here?
000
Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Why don't you just tell me what is on your LinkedIn that is useful information for this conversation? Like you literally just said to go read it!

Blake Stovall @mstrofbass.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Then tell us what you did. Be specific. Show us that you were actually doing things involved in managing provider data besides sending emails when a claim address doesn't match what's in the database.
