Can we afford the future? Last week at #LIBER202, @cameronneylon and I presented out open source analytics pipeline projecting library consortium costs into the future under different scenarios. Using data from #CAUL and #Bibsam we show how publicly […] [Original post on akademienl.social]
Stacked bar chart showing overlap of detection of affiliated publications for CAUL institutions from 2015 to 2024. A substantial proportion of outputs are identified as affiliated in both OpenAlex and OpenAIRE with both contributing a proportion of unique outputs. Stacked area graph showing a projection of publishing systems costs over time. Overall costs rise from around 80 million to about 160 million euros from 2024 to 2032. The model scenario, built up from past data for Bibsam, focuses on expansion of publishing agreements to reduce APC payments so shows an increasing proportion of agreement costs over time.

Is there a relationship between the metadata publishers submit to Crossref and the submission systems they use? 🤔 In this new preprint with @HLdeJonge, we analyzed 153 publishers and 4 major systems to find out. 👉 doi.org/10.31222/osf.io/ndx3f_v1 […] [Original post on akademienl.social]

Great thoughful blog post from @jeroenbosman and @Jeroenson on @upstream: The resilience of open science in times of crisis. doi.org/10.54900/pqrcx-8d019 They abstract different types of threats and different aspects of resilience - linking both […] [Original post on akademienl.social]
Graphical model of resilience aspects during a threat/intrusion event. It connects 5 types of threats (potential threat, actual threat, encounter/attack, incursion and destruction) to 5 resilience aspects (prevention, protection, resistance, withstanding, repair) that together form options for resilience for systems, communities and individuals

Great to see Pangaea / Helmholtz @helmholtz involved in this - and simultaneouly intrigued on the details, esp. where it says 'formally working with [NOAA]"? doi.org/10.1038/d41586-025-01309-3 Also good to see the update re: public data.
UPDATES & CORRECTIONS

In thinking about alternatives for #PubMed (coverage and functionalities) I wondered how many PubMed records of recent years don't have a DOI. Numbers for (journal) articles, reviews, preprints and retractions from 2022-2024, from OpenAlex (pub and source types are OpenAlex' classification)
Table of (journal) articles, reviews, preprint and retraction with pmid only or with pmid & doi.
