It started as a plantation town, then became a company town for Imperial Sugar. As of now, it's a swanky suburb with a huge medical district (multiple hospitals and doctors).

Most school book bans in a year is not a record we wanted, but we got it. And that's even without counting all the books that were secretly removed in unreported shady under-the-table ways to avoid calling them bans, which I'd assume is also at record levels.

My Ex Is a Vampire is a YA urban fantasy and my characters are teenagers. Jane and Andy are both prickly but they're also loyal to their families. And I feel like their motivations are understandable.

#QueerPrompts Critical Race Theory just because there are Filipinos. There's also a scene where Jane fights vampires attacking a protest encampment. Funny thing is that originally, that scene was inspired by when I covered Occupy Wall Street in college.
