A local gift shop displays an ofrenda in preparation for Día de los Muertos which happens at the beginning of November. #diadelosmuertos #mexico

An ofrenda is a Mexican alter or memorial, set up for the remembrance of our loved ones who have passed. Each element of the ofrenda has a specific purpose. Giant marigolds (not setup in this ofrenda yet) also called cempasúchil, provide a strong scent to lead family members home, Bread and milk are left as an offering for when they arrive. Other various personal items and photos are included as well.

I had THE BEST agua de guayaba (guava water) at lunch yesterday. There was no water, just guava perfection. It was the best agua fresca I’ve had since I’ve been in Mexico, and it’s been 10 years! The tacos were delicious too. But that drink…!!! 10 out of 10! #mexico #lovewhereyoulive

Today I cooked up two generations of golden beets, and one lone sugar beet, all from my garden. My friends and I ate both the roots & the greens. The older generation of golden beets were a bit more tough, not as sweet. The sugar beet was delicious! Time to go plant more! #gardening #beachlife

Today I experienced someone yelling anti-American sentiment at me in public. The thing is, I’ve lived in Mexico for 10 years, and I consider it my home. My newest ambition is learning how to down-regulate my nervous system. The world is stressful right now, it’s really taking a hit. Sunsets help.
