Hard to describe. The perspective skews as though I'm looking at an arcade cabinet, sort of. It moves around too. This is a screenshot, not a photo. (Also, the player @ appears to be on a different plane than other characters onscreen. It's not aligned with the grid when the skew happens.)

Like that kind of exists with Gear, but I had five wands at one point and they were all under consumables. It makes sense since you can fire a wand without equipping, though. Indicating to the player that there is an option to manually wield would be stellar.

Yeah, both were wands. The wand I had equipped had no charges left and would tell me so every time I pressed f. Once I wielded the new wand, the old one went to junk, so yeah, handling may need work. It might be nice to see equippable items (wielding / wearing / light / ranged) in their own tab.

Also, is there were some way to view an item description that I've overlooked? With a lot of the scrolls, for example (even the ones in English; I assume I'll find a way to translate the non-English ones), I feel like I'm missing out on some lore that would explain their mechanic.

This is super fun! I've been playing for a couple hours and I'm to level 9. I went down to 150 feet a couple times. I will say, 100 feet (Ganzir) is painful to be in due to the particular interaction of light bloom and the way the characters onscreen blur. I feel a little seasick. But it's very fun!

… as a composer, you have to make spaces for the players to breathe! … and phrased them accordingly. This is less of a problem with strings; bowing is baked into the samples, since they are one-shots, not loops. I think I've done justice to the style.

At first I wanted the real deal, a new Streetly Electronics M4000 with tapes … but they're quite expensive and VERY heavy. I decided I preferred to have access to every tape sound ever on memory cards rather than the "authentic" Mellotron experience, and I do not repent of my choice.

Despite these technical limitations, tape replay keyboards retain a cult following among prog rock fans. Oasis, Muse, Radiohead, Vampire Weekend, and a good many 21st-century groups still use these sounds, though it's increasingly common to use a sample library or an M4000D like mine.

The tape heads often required recalibration. Tapes would come off their racks and need to be restrung. If the power were to sag on whatever circuit the Mellotron were plugged into, its AC motor powering the capstan pulling the tapes over the playheads slowed, and the pitch of the tapes dropped.

You've heard Mellotron played by the Beatles, Heart, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, King Crimson, the Moody Blues, Yes, Genesis, Roxy Music, Tangerine Dream, and many others. It was a love-hate relationship. Mellotrons often had many more technical issues than synthesizers and later digital samplers.
