Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 7hMy other dream is to work in Somaliland, in partnership with other organisations, starting in the public mental health hospitals in Hargeisa and Burco, and to establish crisis community mental health nursing and free-funded mental health education for health care professionals. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Some of the possible future ideas I have thought of in the past 24 hours: consultancy training; a supported accommodation house for Somali women clients only; becoming an ADHD & Autism assessor and non-medical prescriber; and transcultural addictions service improvement, including khat treatment. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I have sent an email to introduce myself and my interests in substance misuse, transcultural care, and leadership, and to enquire if I can shadow for a day at an integrated NHS, Council, and voluntary sector substance misuse service in one of the most diverse boroughs in London 🤞🏾. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I was looking at an ADHD Specialist Nurse prescriber (CAMHS) job vacancy, and I am now considering a career in CAMHS. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Somebody told me about discounted tickets for NHS staff for concerts, theatres, sports, comedy and arts called “Tickets for Good”. You need to sign up using your NHS email, and the second email needs to be your personal email. www.ticketsforgood.com/ukticketsforgood.comTickets for Good | Free & Discounted Event TicketsTickets for Good helps key workers access free and discounted tickets for live events, gigs, theatre, and attractions across the UK. 000

Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 01/10/2026A student nurse (I realise I am not one anymore) asked me to look over their CV, which I did this eve. I gave feedback on turning it into a story that showcases who they are (soft skills and vision) as well as their knowledge and understanding tailored to role. Your story is unique and stands out. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I look forward to attending the safeguarding conference for health, social, education, private and voluntary services and the key themes are intersectionality between substance misuse, domestic abuse, racism, trauma, etc. I’ll feedback my learnings in team weekly teaching session over team’s lunch. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 30/09/2026This morning, I woke up before the alarm did. It is the second week. I am really enjoying having meaningful, collaborative crisis work with people and their loved ones. It is a privilege to be trusted in people’s homes and lives. And especially when they ask for you again to review and visit 🙏🏾💙. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I actually miss studying and thinking of the next course to consider. I was thinking of applying for CPD funding with the NHS Trust in January and pitching my research dissertation proposal to my university. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 29/09/2026What has this experience taught me is not just follow the money but my values and stick to what I am good at and where I can make a difference which was my heart lies. Also a leadership lesson was taught I guess that feedback is a two street and people can also know senior people through networking. 011
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Second update. Apparently I have been successful. But I wonder if my written feedback had something to do with? 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I should be sleeping but don’t feel tired. It is not that I am upset, but it is the audacity for me and lack of leadership. I took time on my free day to spend 5 hours when I was already marked from the get go. Anyhow feedback is 2 way street and as somebody who expressive in writing, they got mail. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 29/09/2026They probably they didn't call me with feedback because it would be difficult for them to say anything they can fault me on. Tbh I am too good for the place and I don’t fit because of my values plus I am a very boundaried person which speaks for itself. My reputation across Trusts is known and good. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Alhamdulillah, my proudest achievement (faith-related) alongside getting a Distinction ✨. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Update on the interview. Only 12 people out 35 passed to the second stage including myself. There were 15 positions. I interviewed well plus got + clues from the three people panel. I worked at the institution before briefly. My conclusion is that I faced bias because clinically I am that person 💅🏾. 100
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 27/09/2026I don’t really prepare for interviews. I tend to remind myself in the morning but have a few case scenarios in mind to use. I have four questions prepared to ask as it is a two way process. I think my calmness and quiet confidence helps me a lot plus being a natural story teller and my authenticity. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 27/09/2026I have an interview tomorrow for a role in a hospital that pays the equivalent of a London Band 6 staff nurse wage. It is super competitive and involves a pre-interview test. Although adult mental health community is my strength and where I can progress more quickly in banding, I will give it a go. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Reflecting on my 'why' this evening, whilst I was comparing some options. I want to become a mental health nurse to support an underrepresented community I am part of, which leads to my second why: transcultural leadership. And my third reason was improving change, thus anti-racism. 100
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Today was a nice day seeing some of my class and celebrating ❤️. One classmate thanked me for the support given, and another classmate said jokingly that she is expecting a Band 6 role from me as a hiring manager in a year's time. I look forward to meet up again in a month’s time to go out 🥰. 010
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Today I received I received a notification that an account of an organisation has followed me back that celebrates outstanding achievements and positive contributions of staff from the global majority in health and social care which is a nice honour. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 24/09/2026For two years I have been known with an extra ‘e’, but I didn’t bother to change my student nurse nhs email. Today I lead in my first initial assessment in my new role alongside a senior mental health nurse. It felt natural, but I am still getting used to the new professional identity. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Today could have been a celebration of a major life milestone event but instead I am celebrating the start of my proudest achievement instead. God had bigger plans for me alhamdullilah ❤️. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Just watched #PressureMovie - a true story based on D-Day. I did not knew about the history of the meteorologist Dr James Stagg and will read more about it. It made me reflect about the privileges of our current UK 🙏🏾. It is a great movie with great acting 👌🏾. Definitely worth watching! 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 18/09/2026More feedback from CMHT Duty Nurse which made me emotional 😍. 010
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I said goodbye in last zoning meeting and the SaS doctor said she has never come across a student like me who is “so comptentent, knowledgeable, independent, excellent in documentation and signposting. I should join them in CMHT.” What a compliment! I said please put it all into writing for my e-pad 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 17/09/2026It was wonderful to finally see the latest Anti-Racism in Nursing and Midwifery book in hand! I feel incredibly privileged to have contributed to this important publication by co-writing a chapter on anti-racist leadership, developed during my MSc degree in Mental Health Nursing. 010

Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 16/09/2026I’ve 2 days left in CMHT and received a verbal compliment because of my communication style during a phone call overheard by staff and also a written compliment by management whilst another staff told me I should consider staying on. They don’t know about my previous jobs decision making dilemmas 😬. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 15/09/2026I have officially achieved the required 1800 hours this mid morning 🎉. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I discussed earlier with my close Somali friend and he said that Sagal Abdi-Wali could be the first Somali MP in the UK. I said no, there was another Somali woman from East London, only for me to look up and discover they were a Councillor. So he was right. That would be history. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 14/09/2026It is feel a bit surreal despite there being a current nursing graduate job crisis, it is not my current experiencewhich I feel lucky about. I have worked there before and it’s a different speciality, which quite unique in itself. I’ll ponder about it more and see how it feels by the end of the day. 100
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 14/09/2026I just finished a two-hour call with a former colleague. I was contemplating whether to apply for a vacancy at the hospital where I used to work. A former recruitment matron from the hospital kept liking my posts despite not being connected. The place also pays better due to additional allowances 👌🏾. 100
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 13/09/2026I normally don’t comment of things on Twitter, I read, scroll and ignore but sometimes I do. I had to defend the British Somali Labour candidate despite being a Green Party member against somebody weaponing the religion and anti-blackness and also ignorant ‘gotcha’ take that has no relevance. Sigh 😔 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 13/09/2026A very senior leader shared their article with me this morning to get my reflections. It had a lot of gems of advice and their ‘why’ they started out their leadership journey in the NHS which resonated with me. Why did I go into nursing when I was already in a management position in the NHS? 110
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Tomorrow I will start the 15th week (final) of clinical placement. To say I am relieved that it's almost over is an understatement. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Great to see Buckinghamshire New University ranked second in the UK for Mental Health Nursing and number one among London universities! A fantastic achievement and a testament to the university's commitment to excellence in mental health nursing education. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 11/09/2026I went for a walk leaving the house around 18:45. The park closed early at 19:30 & went around the residential areas. It was until I noticed a fox that I realised perhaps it is time to go home and it isn’t summer anymore. But I do like the dark cloudy skies, cooler weather temperature and quietness. 000
Mushtag @mskahin1.bsky.social · 10/09/2026I still feel bad about withdrawing from the second job offer at the acute mental health ward. I have listened to and taken on constructive feedback from a close friend of mine, an NHS Director who is a nurse by background, whom I fully trust. It was the right decision for me. 000
