Maybe it's some ptsd from making medical decisions for my daughter and having things go so wrong. 😅 We have rare issues in our family and I think I'm making the less risky decision, but I just hope it all works out. His dang adult molar is completely horizontal in his jaw. Both decisions have risks.

My anxiety is so high. I don't know exactly why. I should, I would assume, feel better that we talked things over with the dentist and ortho regarding my son's weird sideways tooth, but all I feel is anxious. 😭😅 why?? We changed the plan a bit and I just feel dread. Ugh.

teachers/adults. I wanted to ask for her to see 1 trusted adult/teacher to work on goals to speak more, to phase in more words to say. I'm not sure they'll go for it. She adores her 3rd grade teacher, who now works in special education. I think it's perfect. 🤞

She's fully on her own in gen ed, so I don't think there's a cost difference there. She doesn't use text to speech, as we're trying to encourage speech. I'm not sure extra time would necessarily help either. She communicates with other kids or does a nod or shake head, thumbs up or down, etc. with

We talked about it, but decided against it. She's not "non-verbal" as some kids with Autism or other conditions are, but goes into a "functional freeze" from anxiety and can't get words out. She has an amazing vocabulary and she's really smart, but stuck because of the extreme anxiety. 💔

It's been a balancing act that I don't know that I do well with. Moving farther away helped because she can't just show up and we have a big distance. I sometimes ignore phone calls because I have nothing nice to say. It is frustrating. So frustrating.

accommodations to help prevent her from bring anxious, but my issue is that none of it challenges her to speak. Now she feels more comfortable being quiet vs trying to talk. She needs "brave goals" to work on speaking with a trusted adult. I don't know how to push that.

I'm not sure what the cost difference is. The SLP said she doesn't have the training/expertise to work on Selective Mutism, but was seeing her for ingressive breathing(she inhales deeply before saying anything). She has the Selective Mutism diagnosis already. The school does not have a counselor, due to budget cuts. I haven't looked for an advocate, as I've been spending time calling therapist places.

That's why you start with a long board. 😁 You can ride the tiniest of waves on it and it's fun. I would ride the waves at Doheny state beach, which were small and basically mounds of water more than a wave. That's where I first learned to surf. I taught my cousin there, too. Good times.

Surfing is fun! Start off with a long board, which is easier. You can practice how to jump up on your feet before ever getting in the water. I grew up in SoCal and we were at the beach every summer. My dad surfed and taught my brother and I. I miss it.

I understand why... it just sucks. She can't work on or meet goals in Speech if she's unable to speak. She'll be switched to a 504 plan for accommodations. It doesn't have the same protections as an IEP, but I don't know that I can fight it.

It sadly still counts against her attendance according to the front office staff. 😒 She also is likely being dropped from her IEP because she will not talk to the SLP. She'll be switched to a 504. We will discuss that later this month at her IEP meeting.

Thanks. It's so hard to watch her struggle. I can't seem to find a therapist in Las Vegas either. She was dropped by her last one and that made things worse. I've been working with her, but it's challenging. I'm just frustrated. I want her to be able to make progress.

He's evil. I remember reading about the Tuskegee "study" back in college and how awful that was. The whole reason we have a medical ethics board to make sure we never did that again, knowingly harming people with a disease.... and here we are. 🤬😭 I don't understand how they can do this.
