Ash had directed me in King Lear some years ago. He was forever smiling, always had a thoughtful and generous style of working, and brought a warmth and humanity to his interactions with everyone. Rest in peace, Ash. You are missed.

Said goodbye to our theatre compadre Ash today. Ash had kept his illness to himself for years, not wanted to burden or bring darkness to any of his friends. So the feeling of disbelief was strong today. But connecting with his friends & family today provided some much-needed balm for our spirits.

I got my code to access the sale for the Oasis show in Munich next July! Like I can afford this after the big Paris/Napoli trip a month ago. I’ve always wanted to visit Germany, would’ve preferred visiting during Oktoberfest, but this would be grand! Do I do it? Can I afford it? Oh god oh god.

We laughed uproariously and even cried at its poignant & touching look at the human need for connection, to survive, and to help others. Anosh Irani’s script & the actors are exceptional. Tickets are hard to come by, but I do highly recommend checking out this beautiful piece.

This sumptuous courtyard in the super posh Hotel de Crillon seemed a perfect spot to enjoy a grilled Catalan sausage with mash. Plus a Hibiki Suntori whisky that turned out to be a whopping 48€! Our final meal in Paris for this vacation. Very sad to leave. But my wallet is delighted to leave.

Shakespeare and Company is a renowned & beloved bookstore in Paris. Word is that famous writers from way back used to write there. Now there are lineups every day at all hours to get in and browse. We ended up with four books and a beautiful tote bag. And a homemade lemonade from the cafe next door.

Why is there a Five Guys in Paris?! “Hey, let’s go to fuckin Paris and eat a fuckin burger” became our catchphrase. 😄 But then we ended up at Big Fernand, where I had the signature burger with beef “of French origin” and cheese that translates to “mountain time with raw milk”. Strangely delish!

I’m sorry, did our Uber from CDG to our hotel near the Champs Elysees really cost 60€ ?! Oh well, it’s Paris, it was never gonna be a cheap vacay. Our jetlaggy meal was a caïpirinha that packed a wallop despite seeming more ice than beverage, burratina with cherry tomatoes, and a Croque Madame.

A disappointing start to our big vacation: we got downgraded from business class to premium economy. All so a family could sit together. Which makes no sense, as all the seats are separated anyway. Oh well. This is still our first big vacation in almost 10 years, so we ain’t gonna let this faze us.
