Spirited Away (2001) is a phenomenal film about a young girl who is forced to work at a bath house for spirits because her parents pigged out on food meant for those spirits, turning them into disgusting porkers. Full of whimsy and wonder, it's top 3 Miyazaki films for sure.

War Machine (2026) is an action thriller where a group of Army Ranger trainees are attacked by an alien robot. They have to survive both the attacker and the wilderness as they try to warn their home base. The film features a significant training montage for the recruits. Solid action, decent film.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) sees the aftermath of the first film where the entirety of Raccoon City is sealed off by Umbrella to stop the spread of infection. A few survivors end up working together to find a way out, fighting monsters throughout the night. Solid enough sequel.

Orca (1977) is probably one of the better Jaws knock-offs spawned in the immediate aftermath of the smash hit. Richard Harris plays a boat captain who hunts a killer whale, causing a gruesome accident...and the whale's mate swears vengeance, going after him and his crew. It's an interesting one.

The End of Oak Street (2026) is about a suburban family whose entire neighborhood gets transported back to the age of dinosaurs. The dinos find the inhabitants rather tasty, and a family of four tries to survive and find a way back "home" before they too are nommed. It's fun, better than recent JP.

Goldeneye (1995) is the first of the Pierce Brosnan James Bond films. After the end of the cold war, Bond is tasked with taking down a shadowy arms dealer named Janus, ultimately catching up with the baddie in a way that hits far closer to home than he realized. Holds up, great Bond film.

Done with the disappointingly subpar Super Troopers 3 (2026), Broken Lizard's latest attempt to re-capture lightning in a bottle. This time, Farva is engaged to Thorny's sister, causing tons of issues with Thorny tries to break off the wedding. Probably 75% of the jokes didn't land.

Normal (2026) is an action thriller that starts with two inept people robbing a bank, only for the temporary sheriff to discover the town has a dark secret the robbery exposes. Bob Odenkirk was a writer and the lead in the film, which is decent enough but not anything too special. Fun at least.

Super Mario Bros Galaxy (2026) features Princess Peach questing to save her long-lost sister Daisy. It's a bit of a mess but was still fully entertaining. A lot of "cram as many references in as you can" orders clearly happened, even showcasing villains from obscure early Mario games.

Mortal Kombat (2021) was director Simon McQuoid's debut feature. It was alright, with some interesting characters and fights but a bland protagonist and a lot of nonsensical writing decisions. His follow-up in the sequel was much better.

Shutter Island (2010) is a phenomenal adaptation of a book wherein two US Marshals end up on an asylum island, looking for an escaped patient. Things are not what our protagonist, Teddy, expects them to be once he delves deep into the mystery. Amazing cast, great thriller, Scorsese directed.

Swing Time (1936) is a Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dance pairing. An engaged dancer is tasked with earning $25,000 to re-earn the hand of his beloved, so he heads off to the big city to push his gambling luck, eventually falling for a dance instructor he meets by chance. Plot is awful, though.

21 Bridges (2019) was Chadwick Boseman's last movie released before his death. It's a police chase film set in NYC, where two crooks steal a load of cocaine, realize crooked cops were guarding it, and flee as Boseman tracks them down. Pretty basic but the actors try their best to elevate the script

Finally finished with Stalag 17 (1953), a film about WWII US prisoners in a German POW camp. The majority of the film takes place inside their bunkhouse, where the soldiers pull shenanigans to keep themselves entertained. However, a traitor in their midst threatens all of their lives....Great film

Finally completed with Super Troopers (2001), the hilarious comedy about a group of misfit state patrollers who bumble their way into a drug conspiracy while engaging in all sorts of hijinks. I'm a big Broken Lizard fan, even enjoying some of their more obscure stuff like Club Dread.

Mortal Kombat 2 (2026) is a film in which a group of fighters is tasked with saving the world by winning a fighting tournament. It's a lot better than the first of the reboot series, full of solid action, fun new characters, and plenty of reasonable references to the video game series.

Minions & Monsters (2026) is an homage to film-making in golden age Hollywood. One of the many movies they parody is Citizen Kane. John Lennon repeatedly said that Citizen Kane was one of his favorite movies and one that spoke to him on a deeper level. Digging deep for the reference! Plus it's GOOD

Taking the easy way out, Jackass: Best and Last (2026) was a riot. These are films IMO best seen with people, because the laughter and schadenfreude of the stunts these goofballs pull needs to be shared. While this "last" one is half clip show and half new stuff, it's still crude and hilarious.

Fuze (2026) is a heist thriller where a group of thieves robs a London bank while the neighborhood is evacuated after a WWII era bomb is discovered. Honor Swinton Byrne plays a major role in it; she's the daughter of Tilda Swinton and John Byrne. The film itself is a mediocre romp, but still fun.

Showed friends Fight Club (1999), one of the highest-rated films of all time but somehow one only nominated for a single Academy Award - best sound effects editing. Hilarious. It still holds up pretty well, although today's tech-centric world certainly keeps the narrative in the past.

Scary Movie (2026) has an overarching theme where the children of the main franchise characters (from the first 2) are being stalked and attacked by a new Ghostface killer. It makes fun of about 50 movies in a variety of ways, some good, some terrible. Definitely funny at times but not a good movie.

In the Grey (2026) is a pretty solid heist thriller in which the main character (Eiza González) is a lawyer who specializes in recovering money from the ultra-wealthy after they fail to pay back loans. She uses two key operatives, Sid and Bronco (Henry Cavill and Jake G) to plan and execute heists.

Masters of the Universe (2026) is a rebooted He-Man vehicle. He-Man was famously a cartoon and toy line that's been adapted before. This time around, they lean all the way into the goofiness of the material and deliver a fun adventure film that has tonal issues, but still brings enjoyable action.

Pressure (2026) is the story of the D-Day invasion told from the angle of the critical weather forecast that nearly derailed the whole operation. It tries to be Oppenheimer in style but never quite gets there, but there are stellar acting performances from the top cast. It's ultimately pretty solid.

Crossed one off my list by watching Enter the Dragon (1973), the movie that really cemented martial arts films in western cinemas and unleashed hordes of imitations. Bruce Lee is incredible here and so many aspects have been ripped off/homaged in media ever since this flick. Highly enjoyable.

Finally completed with Legally Blonde (2001), the delightful legal comedy/drama about not taking people by their appearances. Reese Witherspoon is incredible in it, as is the commentary on looks, women supporting/degrading other women, sexism in the legal profession, and scandals in higher learning.
