I noticed O carefully placing buttons onto log slices. “I’m making cupcakes but I don’t know how to do it.” We talked about how people often follow a recipe, which gives us steps to follow when cooking. O then asked me to write down the steps he told me. 🧁✏️ A real purpose for writing 💛

We took our shape learning outdoors! 🔺🔵 Large shapes were drawn on the ground and we used natural loose parts to create our own shapes, or used the outlines to make them even bigger. We then played a shape game to help us recognise and name the shapes we had been exploring. 🌿

Consolidating the sounds we’ve covered! 🔤 The children are applying what they’ve learned by saying, making, breaking, blending, covering and writing words using their sounds. 🌟 We are working towards making this learning more automatic as the children apply their phonics skills independently. 👏

A humble K asked me to come & observe his castle.🏰He proudly talked me through his creation. This gave us an opportunity to explore the symmetry he had included & introduce the idea of a line of symmetry. Some children then went off to spot & create their own examples of symmetry in the environment.
