Half right! The answer is Bob Mortimer, I bumped into Vic Reeves in a toilet at Faversham in Leeds back in the day! It’s a very bizarre part of my past that I had dinner with the now King of Spain when he was Crown Prince!

Nice one Darren. But 35 years, heavens! Last saw them in 2019 (my final gig before Covid wiped out live music for nearly 2 years) playing whole of Bizarro - the boy Gedge still has it!

Really interested to hear your thoughts on Drop Zone. We previously holidayed in the area staying in a villa in Le Serre (just west of Le Muy) which is present in the game board 😀 so intrigued in the ConSim interest in this lesser known Allied action

We have an interrail trip already booked along French and Italian riviera then back to Turin and onto Lyon that needs this route so gambled on that (would have had to bus it to Lyon otherwise as we are training it back from Lyon to Newcastle) as you said… great news!

Climb up Skiddaw in amazing wintery conditions. Amazing views abounded. Couldn’t get up Gale Road due to ice, so longer walk than planned but well worth the effort 9.2m 2792ft ascent

Itinerary sorted and accommodation booked for Japan visit in May. We fly in/out of Osaka, so no Tokyo visit this time. From landing we’ll go straight up to Kyoto, then onto Kanazawa, then down to Nara, across to Hiroshima be returning to see Osaka before flying home #JapanTravel

Wild camp in this special place and trying out new NatureHike Star River UL, really impressed, acres of space inside and huge vestibules in either side, all in a sub 2kg pack 👍

Spent this evening with a friend from the past, Spike Lee’s 1990 Mo Better Blues - still as brilliant as it was when I saw it 30 years ago in Leeds as a student. Luminous, human shaped and saturated with love for jazz music. A true classic!

Trialing subscription to Outdoor Active for walks planning - has full OS Landranger and Explorer maps (along with OpenStreetMaps) for planning and on hike tracking, and also has a nice augmented reality live view that shows peaks names and distances

Indeed, we’ve done journeys so the way from Newcastle by train, so aware of how that works, was just wanting to confirm 100% that what it seemed to say, valid for any journey to departure port was valid for that sort of journey (seemed logical)

Richard Clarke @mrrichardc.bsky.social · 08/12/2024
Thanks, yes understand that. Because we are travelling back from Lyon to Newcastle by train we have already saved more versus min ticket prices on the rest of the trip, but only need 3/4 for that trip, so might as well use it for Leeds journey anyways if it was valid - so great it is 👍

@seatsixtyone.bsky.social if I buy an Interrail to use within Europe, can I use the 1st day of pass to travel Newcastle-Leeds (for flight). IE travel to my port of departure is to airport?

Eric Robson wrote a book back in 80s/90s The Border Line which I’d the whole Border from Solway Firth to Berwick. Included this whole Border Ridge section, funnily enough I’m reading the book right now
