Like this case, it has to do with Federal interference vs. State Procedures. The Trump Administration is trying to use the USPS to interfere with State Mail Ballots. If a Federal Court can't dictate what state laws are, than the same court CERTAINLY would not allow the USPS to do it.

Justice Kavanaugh just REJECTED Missouri's attempt to get their gerrymandered map reinstated within the past hour. FYI.

Oh, they WANT elections, they just don't want them to be FAIR.

I'm sure the Secretary of State of Nevada already has plenty of toilet paper at his house. the DOJ doesn't need to send more.

I object! I only got mine 9 years ago!

Because the DOJ wanted an immediate stay due to the fact that mail ballots in some states start going out as early as this week.

Because Justice Jackson sits over the 1st Circuit, and she has the exclusive right to set the briefing schedule. Not even other SCOTUS justices get a say in the matter as long as she doesn't deny the petition outright.

Dan Meymann @mrpunelephant.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Justice Jackson set the briefing schedule for next Tuesday. This effectively kills the DOJ's momentum here.

In these trying times, I have this to say to the DOJ's lawyers...: Ha. Ha Ha Ha Ha.

Dan Meymann @mrpunelephant.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
Then they've effectively developed back-up plans in case the Trump Administration tries anything funny.

And most of those counties have spoken out AGAINST what the Elections board has done.

They make guidelines and regulations, but are NOT in charge of individual personnel. THAT responsibility is with COUNTY officials.

Freaking out in general isn't productive at all. That's the danger of social media rabbit holes.

The amount of people that I've seen with their proverbial hair on fire is ridiculous. This was SUPPOSED to happen. Judge Talwani is going to replace the injunction with a new one because the old one had procedurally moot language.

Dan Meymann @mrpunelephant.bsky.social · 25/08/2026
The most recent filing by the DOJ trying to get the other injunction lifted effectively admits that it's already too late to do anything for the midterms. There simply isn't enough time to do what Trump wants.

This release may actually be intentional by career personnel at the USPS in order to make sure the injunctions STAY in place and do away with Trump's "unripeness" excuse. "You want us to put out this ridiculous rule? Fine! Here it is! It's almost September now; what are you gonna do about it?"
012
Dan Meymann @mrpunelephant.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
They can't. This is Sauer effectively going "Pretty Please?"

Dan Meymann @mrpunelephant.bsky.social · 29/07/2026
They're not even arguing on the MERITS, just that it's "too early". Shows you how little faith they have in the actual constitutionality of the Executive Order.

I was going to say the same thing. I honestly don't think that the DOJ's approval is really "news", as it was a given already. Also, if California is able to stop it, then the merger is dead anyway, because they can't act as one company in some states and as two in others.
031
Dan Meymann @mrpunelephant.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
Still better than Bill Pulte. (Yes, I'm aware that even a kangaroo testicle with a smiley-face drawn on it would be a better DNI director than Bill Pulte)

He knows he can't actually do these things, but the trick is trying to get enough people to THINK that he can. Sowing doubt is the whole reason for these removals.

Gabbard made it all up, too. See where that got her. People, especially judges, are likely to take Pulte even LESS seriously. Made-up evidence makes good headlines, but falls apart when actually examined.

@marcelias.bsky.social I don't know if you'll ever respond to this; but doesn't this actually HELP Virginia's case? The Republicans' argument in that case was that the map was passed after early voting in 2025 had begun. The (seemingly successful) argument in "Watson" seems to be the opposite.

Dan Meymann @mrpunelephant.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
Here's something: Illinois just introduced a NEW redistricting bill, and now has the effective permission to redraw its own maps before the midterms. Maryland is doing the same.

It's a win-win for us. If it's too late, the Supreme Court is less likely to help anyone other than Louisiana specifically. If it's NOT too late, then the court is more likely to reverse the Virginia decision. No guarantees, just dealing in probabilities here.

"Cutting Costs". I presume the "cost" in this case is having to admit to being a selfish asshole to their constituents.

The correct term isn't "political actor"; it's "Corporate Funding Recipient".

Just to elaborate for everyone: Judge Boulee SPECIFICALLY mentioned SEVERAL TIMES in his decision that NO FRAUD was found from this information. He also pushed back on attempts by the DOJ to get more personal information about poll workers. What's likely coming eventually is a Motion to Suppress.

Just putting this out there for the future once the GOP caves: "Amendment 28: All Congressional district mapping SHALL be conducted in conjunction with a mandatory bipartisan panel within the United States Census Bureau; ABSENT consideration for ANY political party, organization, or entity."

They never SAY why it's fast-tracked, just that it needs to be sent back to the lower court for "clarity", while at the same time making things LESS clear.

There's plenty of bipartisan outrage among REGULAR people in Florida, but Right-Wing media doesn't want people to see that. The new map is almost certain to produce a "dummy-mander" anyway.

Blue States will say "Okay, we'll spread out! Bye Bye EVERY Republican district!"
000
Dan Meymann @mrpunelephant.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
They'll give Democrats the excuse they need to say "You want us to unpack our Minority districts? Fine! Here; now all the GOP districts in our state are GONE!"
011
Dan Meymann @mrpunelephant.bsky.social · 02/05/2026
I'll say this again: do NOT jump to doomsday. Any DOJ effort to go after majority-minority districts in Blue States will result in Democratic legislatures effectively having permission to spread their votes out and completely eliminate Republican districts. The GOP will be worse off than before.
