Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 10/03/2025Having these headcanons is ofc fine, but I just don't personally like them. I feel like dwarves are often portrayed as an almost infantilized race that needs to be "saved" (where their culture is wrong, hobbit culture is "right") due to fanon/popular tropes and that bothers me. 080
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 10/03/2025....fandom tropes which is the EXTREMELY popular trope of "dwarves do not know agriculture" (contrary to canon dwarves) where Bilbo is the one to teach dwarves how to farm and feed themselves (I guess when they exist independently away from other races they just starve in this trope). 1110
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 10/03/2025Though many fandom tropes are about the ways hobbits are "better" than dwarves. Like how Bilbo is often portrayed in fanwork as being more skilled and knowledgeable in ruling a dwarf kingdom than the dwarvish royal family is themselves, and this trope is often combined with one of my most hated... 180
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 10/03/2025Regarding hobbits/dwarves fandom tropes, it's interesting that the fandom trope of "hobbits being more resistant to poisonous plants than dwarves" is so popular. Dwarves are famously sturdy and resistant to any sickness, doesn't it make more sense for them to have such resistance? 2140
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 27/02/2025Oh well, at least my tiktok is going well but who knows what is going to happen with the ban and the uhh, Tr*mp stuff 050
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 27/02/2025My tumblr is dying a slow death, I mainly use it as an archive nowadays (because it's been bad for a while) but it's crazy how much my numbers have tanked on there. I've been posting art (on different accounts) there since 2010, it's never been this bad before and it makes me sad for artists 2120
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 16/02/2025Oh yeah this bothers me too when it comes to lore fans, esp as everything in the legendarium is written by unreliable and biased narrators. I think in this case though it's because people just don't have the energy to read stuff (and because people get scared off by Silm) 020

Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 13/02/2025HEENCE I decided Grór and other recorded Durin's Folk dwarves in the family tree (which does exclude all the women in the family except Dís) can and should be women even if they might largely be seen as male dwarves by other races. At least in my head, and it's more fun that way 120
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 13/02/2025The legendarium itself is unreliable, I subscribe to the fact that "Nothing can be trusted in the legendarium regarding the dwarves". All dwarves appear male to other races, so I feel the gender of recorded dwarves is extra unreliable. What if the legendarium is just mistaken? 120
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 13/02/2025tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Gr%C3%B3r I know you said ignore the question but I'll answer anyways, this is my own version of Grór (who I decided should be fem). Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 06/02/2025I have noticed a lot of people do not even consider reading the legendarium itself even when they actively have a strong interest in the topic. Though it may be because I operate in "The Hobbit" sphere where people are generally not well versed in non PJ movie lore? Idk 170
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 06/02/2025I often get questions about which websites are the most reliable as a source when learning tolkien lore, and my answer is always the same. It's the texts this guy wrote himself. 1141
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 05/02/2025There is! Or well, it is a prevalent fandom trope anyways when it comes to tolkien dwarf fanworks (though it mainly shows up in the hobbit sphere of all the tolkien sub fandoms) 110
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 04/02/2025The term "rendering" has been used in that context for a very long time among professional digital artists, I just think lately the term has made the rounds among hobbyists as well. So it's not just for video and 3D 010

Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 28/01/2025It wasn't exactly an outward PR nightmare but internally it was , this extremely tonedeaf email angered everyone to the degree that management had to start putting out the fires it started. Imagine if they had posted this publicly??? 000
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 28/01/2025When I was laid off from a fairly large (game)company the email the CEO sent out basically said "Unfortunately some of you will be laid off...But we are so exited to announce our plans for the future!" (which went on for many paragraphs, meanwhile the layoffs were only mentioned in ONE sentence) 100
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 27/01/2025Which like, no shade to them , I just hate how wikis like this misrepresent lore to people who are actually trying to learn. about it. It just worsens the issue in The Hobbit side of the Tolkien fandoms where people think a lot of the fanon is straight up lore canon. 020
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 27/01/2025Thank you so much! I really like this particular combo for Thorin, though for more book accuracy he should be decked out in more gold rather than silver (since he's flexing his wealth with his gold chains) 110
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 27/01/2025Worst part is that I have seen people fall for this particular wiki personally, I only learned about it because it was linked in the Acorns & Oak Leaves discord where some first thought these OCs were legit/ real scrapped movie characters. 110
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 27/01/2025Nerd of the Rings is quite reliable (esp in comparison to fandom wikis which can be abysmal in terms of lore accuracy), I like to watch his videos too ^^ 000
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 27/01/2025PJ movie dwarf fans: "Ugh, the orcs are so terrible, they hate the line of Durin just because the dwarves tried to take back Moria!" Legendarium dwarf fans: "Uh... About that...." 080
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 23/01/2025There are many other examples in this wiki, honestly, it's one of the worst I've seen out there when it comes to Tolkien Wikis, but it's also one of the funniest 130
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 23/01/2025And "Thórin" Oakenshield , famously unmarried in the legendarium, is ACTUALLY married to a dwarf woman named Lís according to this wiki! 250
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 23/01/2025Oh and Dís is supposedly the second to her name (and her mother apparently is named Lagertha), with a husband named Tíli and apparently she has a grandchild that lived in EREBOR somehow???? Lmaoooo 140
Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 23/01/2025From "Peter Jackson's The Hobbit Wiki". This wiki not about the legendarium but instead the movies but it shows how bad fandom wikis can get. It claims that Frerin, a minor, was married to "one of the most prettiest of every dwarf-women in Middle-Earth" and had not one but TWO kids with her. 270

Mr.Kida @mrkida.bsky.social · 23/01/2025Concerning stuff, I wonder if he's been operating in The Hobbit specific fandom spaces too since a lot of the fans there are part of the younger demographic. I really hope that's not the case :S 100
