Has anyone measured how far to the right (or not) the Balmer Curve shifts now that we have clankers?

2x brand new out the box DGX Spark GB10s. $4k each. A super computer in the palm of your hand! Reality: 400ms+ ping with insane variance on wifi. SSH isn't even usable at 400ms latency!!!! Disable wifi power management shit and it's ~10ms (still spikes to 100ms). I totes trust the DAC will work...

Been working on some LLM inference time experimentation using mistral-rs and candle (vllm and PyTorch equivalents). 1. Compile times are pretty annoying, but not that terrible (~10 minutes for a release build). 2. Type system helps understand wtf is going on. 3. My experiments hard failing,

Jeremy Blackburn @mrjimmyblack.com · 04/11/2025
idk if this type of issue would be obviously apparent in C/C++, but it's starting to become clear to me that claude is lacking when it comes to multithreaded stuff. It's wanting to fix concurrency problems by just moving the serial bottle neck to a different part of the code.

Jeremy Blackburn @mrjimmyblack.com · 04/11/2025
Without something like a traditional CS background, I don't see how AI code assistants are going to be particularly useful. This is Nth time I've had to push claude in the right direction wrt performance.

I didn't realize that progress bars and live stats were so out of distribution, but claude has not figured this out in several days and I got tired of watching it fail.

One of the killer app type of features of code assistants is that they have the context of your code base. Yet, I find myself having to forcibly "re-educate" when existing code base already has a solution for the task at hand. Not good news for clueless human users.

Jeremy Blackburn @mrjimmyblack.com · 30/10/2025
Trying to use claude with a more out of distribution project starting with a code base that makes pretty heavy use of concurrency to maximize throughput (both wrt async code and blocking code). I haven't touched it in a year or so. I've caught several poor architectural choices claude made so far.

I burned trees to verify I'm not delusional. Look at that. Not even gemini is dumb enough to mention reliability concerns and instead mentions the ride quality. Also, for good measure, the Audis and Mercedes in its super hatch list are both automatic dual clutch transmissions vs the RS's 6 speed.
An AI summary of the Focus RS's standing with respect to other super hatches:

Summary of the Focus RS's Standing

• Handling & Driver Engagement: The Focus RS is frequently praised as one of the most fun and involving super hatches, largely thanks to its unique, aggressive All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) system with torque vectoring that can even allow for controlled oversteer (Drift Mode).

• Performance: It offers a strong blend of power (350 hp) and AWD launch capability, placing it ahead of cars like the Golf R and Civic Type R in the 0-60 mph sprint, though it can trail the more powerful Audi/Mercedes rivals.

• Daily Drivability & Interior: This is where the RS takes a hit. Its ride is famously stiff (even in its softer modes), and its interior quality and comfort are generally considered a step down from the more premium Golf R and Audi RS 3.

In short, the Focus RS is the loud, brash, and aggressive enthusiast's choice in the super hatch class, prioritizing raw track performance and fun over daily comfort and luxury.

NB: the attached image doesn’t have the full list of conspiracy theories she is into. Have to scroll to get to the last one (deep state satanic rituals).
A screenshot of the various conspiracy theories Danica Patrick has expressed belief in:

In a June 2024 episode of her podcast, Danica Patrick discussed the "lizard people" conspiracy theory with guest and "spiritualist" Elizabeth April. April claimed that certain celebrities, such as Justin Bieber, are "shapeshifters". Patrick entertained these ideas on air, and her history of promoting various other conspiracy theories suggests she may believe in the concept.
Other conspiracy theories Danica Patrick has promoted on her podcast include:

• The moon landing: Patrick has stated on social media that she believes the United States faked the moon landing.

• Alien reptilians: The guest on Patrick's podcast claimed that a group of reptilians created money to control humans and that these reptilians are now afraid of humans gaining power.

• Pyramids as an energy source: Patrick has claimed on Instagram that the Egyptian pyramids were built as an energy source rather than tombs.

• Chemtrails: She has also publicly supported the chemtrails conspiracy theory on social media.

I definitely have plenty of old and tattered T-shirts, but it is weird to me how some people have one specific outfit that they think is special and wear to every event for the past 10+ years. I wonder if they realize how obvious (and sad) it is?

I was also using Claude in the VS Code plugin vs web ui with Gemini. That said, Claude seems to have performed much better. I hit session limit pretty fast and it took over 2 hours to get the app running tho. Still need to read through code; seems like a lot of rust LOC for a relatively simple app.

I’m getting too deep into the AI companion stuff. The male consumer crowd seems focused on image/video generation vs voice/text that the female crowd seems to be interested in. Makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is why the images produced by male crowd have the most vulgar, 90s style “bolt ons.”
