In Vancouver, WA? I’m teaching a character design class for the time constrained. The class is part mind-shift, part drawing tricks. You’ll create an original character and learn tools to keep growing. $45 with 10 spots each: Thursday, June 11 | 6–8pm Saturday, June 20 | 2–4pm rndm.us/alamud

It’s not the camera. #yetiwise #comicstrip #comics #yeti #bigfoot #art #comic
This is a two panel comic. In the first panel there is a lush forest with yeti walking in front. Overlaying both the forest and the yeti is a typical camera lens target/composition. At the bottom, it says click.

Panel two has a hand holding a Polaroid like photo with an image developed on the inside the images of the previous panel however, in this image yeti is blurry while the background is very clear. The text this image says shoot.

I’ve been working on a new project, projected to debut in late April or early May. So, I haven’t been drawing too much. The dragons are from last night and the hitchhiker is from this morning.

For the past year, on IG, I have been posting a weekly comic. I intended to post here as well, but I dropped the ball. You can find them @yetiwise.com, each week as I play catch up.

Yeah. Monkey see, monkey doo. #yetiwise #comicstrip #comics #yeti #bigfoot
A four-panel YetiWise comic strip. In the first panel, a chimpanzee sits among tall rock formations with sparse ground vegetation, chin resting on folded hands, thinking "Hmmmm…" In the second panel, the chimp thinks "Just need a tool." In the third panel, the chimp uses a long stick — apparently fishing insects from a crack in the rocks — with a satisfied thought bubble reading "That's it!" In the fourth panel, Yeti appears beside the chimp, who continues using the stick and murmurs "Yum." Yeti gestures with a blue speech bubble: "AI* without the disasterous environmental impact." A footnote at the bottom reads: "*Actual Intelligence." Artist signature reads ©mrjaymyers.

Keep sticking your head out—it can only hurt. #yetiwise
A four-panel YetiWise comic strip. In the first panel, a tortoise lies upside down on its shell amid dark foliage, crying “I hate when this happens. HELP!!” A dark speech bubble above reads “Trauma…” In the second panel, the tortoise remains flipped, still calling “Help!” while a second bubble continues: “…is as natural as bone pushing through gum… I was afraid this would happen. Again.” In the third panel, a large white yeti with yellow flower-like ears crouches over the tortoise, saying “It’s ok, I got you.” The tortoise responds: “I shouldn’t have come out of my shell.” In the fourth panel, the yeti sits close to the righted tortoise, which says “I’m not ever coming out. Again.” The yeti replies: “I understand. It’s scary living. Don’t give up.” The tortoise answers simply: “Ok.” Artist signature reads ©mrjaymyers.

In 2011, I had only been drawing again for about a year, not for 10 years. I struggled with drawing and imagination. So, when I couldn’t think of something I’d draw pandas. They were very stiff like the first image. But, I was moving my hand. Some 15 years later and I still find them fun to draw.
A panda with Wolverine (from the comics) claws and ears similar to Wolverine’s hair. It’s standing upright with a cigar. A panda with Wolverine (from the comics) claws and ears similar to Wolverine’s hair. It’s lunging forward with a cigar. It says “Bub” and the claws are making a SNIKT SOUND. (There’s also some writing but it’s not connected to the image.)

I love leaving something that I don’t know where it ends up. It returns the ephemerality to art. In an age of Ai, digital, mass production, leaving a bit of you that may be pick up and loved or forgotten reminds me of the reality: everything is both temporary and undecided.

I do this thing. I go, I eat/drink, I leave something behind. I’ve left nearly 200 pieces around the area, Ireland, and Victoria BC. Sure they could be sold. Sure they could be collected. Sure someone could throw them away. What I find is… more in comment.

A notion: An ink drawing that I vectorized in Figma, then did the rest in Affinity Designer. (The image trace in the new affinity studio is really bad, but the one in Figma is pretty great.)
A black raven over a red background with the number 15 below its feet. The raven’s eye is magenta.

Coming soon to a bookstore near me and an Amazon cart near you. “Around the World in Yeti Ways” is a project of reuse. In 2017, I decided on an @inktober list that would focus on Bigfoot-like creatures around the world. I will share more updates soon.

Seen any Thylacine? I don’t have a good visual ability. I’m slightly just outside of the aphantasia zone—if the spectrum is 0-10, I’m a 1 maybe 2—I guess it puts me in the phantasia zone. It’s not a memory issue, it’s an ability to see images in your head. I can see things, but only for a second.

So, I do these types of studies to have a good memory of them. That momentary visual I have helps me clarify my memory then everything is reliant on recall. Once I scribble on a page, I can find things in the page—markers, if you will—to assist my memory.
