40 minutes ago felt a bit like one of those characters in a scary movie where one wonders, "Why did he go into a rural nature park at sundown?" Well dusk was beautiful as was the path that included some boardwalks over marsh until it abruptly ended at one ominously overgrown. (More in alt text)
Photo of a distant fading red sunset seen through trees. As my eyes had adjusted this was brighter and prettier in person. Nice and contemplative.Flash photo of where the path suddenly terminated in an abandoned boardwalk being subsumed by branches and vines of a boggier part of the forest. It was at this point I realized just how far I walked into this area, an awareness that remained acute during the stroll back, because running made no sense and would just encourage whatever was there to chase me

Shawano WI has the Twig Soda factory and museum and it is super charming. They've kept making original recipie Sundrop after Keurig bought the national can and plastic bottle rights and changed it. Also make their own stuff. Their story: www.twigsbeverage.net/our-story

Is there any free way to connect banking to Google sheets?

[NOTE: In the discussion it's clear the OP wants to connect their accounts to a sheet somehow.]

I'm a newbie and I want to do banking for me and my husband. I was hand typing all the content for two months and honestly I can't make changes with all the work to get the information down. Any suggestions?Famous Image of Ralph Wiggum on a bus laughing and saying "I'm in danger."

Thought: who is Diane McBain? Turns out comic book fans knew her cause she played a cartoony socialite on Batman. Can you imagine the level of nerdery to remember that back then when there was no internet to look up such things? I'm sure it was in some magazines but still.

WAITING: Stand in Solitary to protest the closure of the DePaul Art Museum October 8th, from 5PM - 6PM DePaul Art Museum 935 W Fullerton Ave Gonna be out of town but show up for this. Details here and in alt text: thevisualist.org?p=194219
What: WAITING: A community demonstration

• Where: Begins at the closed doors of the DePaul Art Museum (935 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago, IL
60614) and extends east toward Lake Shore Drive

• When: Thursday, October 8th, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM

• Who: Open to all Chicago residents, artists, and cultural supporters

Local residents, artists, and culture advocates will stage a bold, peaceful civic demonstration titled WAITING to protest the closure of the DePaul Art Museum (DPAM). Participants are invited to gather to form a massive queue starting from the museum’s currently closed doors and extending down Fullerton Avenue toward Lake Shore Drive.

This fall marks what would have been the museum’s 15th anniversary. Before the DePaul University president announced its closure last spring, DPAM earned a national reputation for championing Chicago-based artists, elevating underrecognized voices, and fostering civic dialogue.

The demonstration is a commentary on the absurdity of losing a vital cultural anchor, and a heartfelt plea for the value of the arts in Chicago. By standing together, participants will highlight the void left by DPAM’s closure—echoing a broader national trend of shuttered arts institutions—and demonstrate the community’s desire to reconnect through art and culture.

One of my fave small things in Logan Square: a sign at California Food Mart has said We Sell Mask for 6 years until someone wrote a small S on the window recently, agressive but not fully confident. And you know they've lived here since 2020 at least & it bugged them the whole time.

This is how the png of the map looks in a mobile browser with zooming in also not the best for print [blurry shades of blue]. And despite the web's decline, there so many tools for making interactive maps often for free. This is a site project person doing a bad job.
This is a bit zoomed in - when the image opens its almost illegible.

Called them and, unlike other orgs I've asked recently, the reply was "well, we are trying our best, get a brochure on site." Having done this myself know it takes recources to do this flipbook & image only stuff than a page of text. Also, in order to make this one needs a text document first.
"Join us for the 22nd annual Arts Weekend!" Image of a brochure that exists as an animated flipbook with a huge amount of unreadable text that includes addresses, times, etc. that people might want to know before they decide to spend time.

This is an image of damage to a public park done for private profit that will take weeks to months to fix. This is on everyone who bought tickets and supported support the racist, classist, irresponsible and kind of sad nostalgia event, and think a bit less of them, even pals.
An artful image of Douglas Park being destroyed so a largely all white crowd could enjoy a festival of largely all white artists that relies on bunch of nostalgia acts that vary from "okay but could play somewhere better" to "not really the band any more" to "why are you giving money to this mean old asshole?"

Lorenz has become another example of Mr. G from the famous essay by Dorothy Thompson "Who Goes Nazi?": "...he will never be anything. His brain operates quite apart from the rest of his apparatus. He will certainly be able, however, fully to explain and apologize for Nazism if it ever comes along."
Mr. G is a very intellectual young man who was an infant prodigy. He has been concerned with general ideas since the age of ten and has one of those minds that can scintillatingly rationalize everything. I have known him for ten years and in that time have heard him enthusiastically explain Marx, social credit, technocracy, Keynesian economics, Chestertonian distributism, and everything else one can imagine. Mr. G will never be a Nazi, because he will never be anything. His brain operates quite apart from the rest of his apparatus. He will certainly be able, however, fully to explain and apologize for Nazism if it ever comes along. But Mr. G is always a “deviationist.” When he played with communism he was a Trotskyist; when he talked of Keynes it was to suggest improvement; Chesterton’s economic ideas were all right but he was too bound to Catholic philosophy. So we may be sure that Mr. G would be a Nazi with purse-lipped qualifications. He would certainly be purged.

Before Dave Sim became a rabid misogynist nut, his parody of fantasy types included a character named Elrod, so this line immediately came to mind.
The pompous Elrod, last ruler of a dying race or perhaps a delusional charlatan, saying "Mind your manners, son. I've got a tall pointy hat! Status, boy! You can argue with me, but you can't argue with status!"

It really is too bad that Sim did a ton of acid then went through a messy divorce and surrounded himself with friends & fans unwilling or unable to confront symptoms of some sort of mental disorder & turned his anxiety & resentment into what he imagined was a cosmology of hating mommy.

It seems to me that human rights aren't really an enforceable concept. They are more like party favors handed out by a government to its supporters. Maybe trans people need new messaging and better ambassadors, who can convince Dems that they're a demo worth courting instead of stepping over.

Dig this sequence In which one of Tony's workers almost kills him & destroys Stark HQ. His monologue in reaction to Tony having fuckall to say besides "I PAID you for that work. You WORK for me. You agreed to the deal. I OWN it." hits and there's that other layer of how Marvel treated its creators.
Not able to summarize all of the dialogue but Bendis is on his game and the art by Cheung, Livesay and Posner rises to acting in still drawings - the anguish of Kenny (who is also given a line which slightly invokes Caliban and Trinculo from the Tempest) and Stark's reductive, entitled attitude (that he's frozen in his suit does not justify it) - dang.
