Thank you. I did know that - but it’s an odd. As you say, Withers wrote the song as well as performing the lead vocal, and it’s his publishers who are suing. So it’s fair to call it “his” song in that context. But you’re right, the story should mention Grover Washington Jr. I’ll add that now.

Boy, can Ariana Grande sing. A lot of vocalists overdo the as libs and melisma - but she always adds something new and interesting; and the melodic detours are always in service to the song’s emotion. Hugely impressed!

This is superb - and basically extends a principle that already exists (old songs get negative weighting) to its logical conclusion (new songs get positive weighting). Count me in.

Mark Savage @mrdiscopop.bsky.social · 04/08/2026
I was thinking more about the ability to designate a specific song as “the “single and excluding others from the chart, until you’re ready to promote something else. I know it’s artificial - but at least it’d give some meaning / purpose to the chart.
110
Mark Savage @mrdiscopop.bsky.social · 04/08/2026
Oh, they need a head to toe overhaul for sure. And it’s probably too late to do that store credibility even then. I always remember Wet Wet Wet deleting Love is All Around after 16 weeks. Fender can’t do that… but why not allow acts to choose what’s defined as a single?
200
Mark Savage @mrdiscopop.bsky.social · 04/08/2026
That’s already part of the rules. Only your first 10 streams of a song are chart eligible per day. Ironically, that means no-one can contribue a full “sale” of a song in a seven-day period, as the calculation is 100 streams = 1 chart unit.
