Schumer has history going back at least to 2006 when as chair of the DSCC he rejected the candidate CT Democrats nominated, and supported the "independent" Joe Lieberman. I also don't think you can compare those two organizations, only one of which actually has power

In Sacramento nearly 40 years ago, a neighbor had 2 very prolific olive trees. I brined them for 6-8 weeks with charred garlic and lemon. They were amazing, and I gave pints of them as holiday gifts for several years

I suspect the plan is to get rid of the profitable customers and drive the program into deficit, then use that to scare voters (and Democratic electeds) into further cutting it back. It might even work

As centrists and liberals around the globe (should) have learned over the past few decades, adopting the positions of your opponents leads to your opponents winning elections. We'll find out if it works the other way round

It wasn’t until he had passed that i realized i had been living within a dozen miles of Edgar Pangborn. I should have, as he was writing stories mostly set in that region, and at least one (The Witches of Nupal) set in my town. I have tried not to repeat that mistake with contemporary writers

I can take any side in this conversation, often within 15 minutes. I think of it this way: you don't need to be a scholar of Louis Armstrong or Charlie Christian to appreciate the new Mary Halvorson & Ambrose Akinmusire LP. But familiarity with the older stuff will deepen your appreciation

When I moved to durham, i realized i had become part of the community when i successfully lobbied the city to install a bus shelter at the stop nearest my house. Nearly 5 years into my stay in Ireland, i have gotten the State to install a bus stop sign at the stop nearest my house. Progress!

But it also meant that you could print what you wanted without prior permission from the government, or subject to prior restraint. The Zenger case predates the Constitution by 5 decades and established that principle. Which mattered because newspapers of the day were extremely partisan

Schumer and Clinton were NY’s Senators at the time, and I believe that WTC was in Jerry Nadler’s district in 2001 (districts have changed after both censuses since). Any one of them could be making a big deal about this if they chose
