It's seems like everyone I know in Charleston is heading for the mountains this weekend. We're going to be in and around Brevard, NC. Say hi if you're nearby!

'The motives of women are so inscrutable! Their most trivial action can mean volumes, and their most extraordinary conduct depend on a hairpin or a pair of curling tongs. How do we build on such a quicksand?' This is what Sherlock Holmes thinks, I couldn't possibly comment.

It's the silence that freaks me out – especially in a busy, noisy cafeteria. I am so grateful that she was right in front of me.

Today at school a girl choked on her food – right in front of me, thank God, or she may not have been noticed. I did three firm whacks on her back and the obstruction was out. She was shaken, I was shaken, but in the hustle and bustle of the cafeteria hardly anyone else noticed.

I went to a Church of England service yesterday: • No traditional building (held in a hotel) • No vestments • No liturgy • No communion So, not my preference. And I only knew one of the songs. But man, it was FANTASTIC. God was in the house and doing great things. Amen.

42. for the human family

O God, you made us in your own image, and you have redeemed us through your Son Jesus Christ: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Pope Leo quoting Tolkien in his encyclical on AI seems like a pointed reference for the tech oligarchs who have appropriated LOTR for their own ends.

Last night after dinner, I wrote a rhyming paraphrase of Psalm 150, meaning that – after 8 years of often-plodding creativity – I now have paraphrased the entire Psalter into poetic forms. So now it's time for me to go back to the beginning and start revising/rewriting! Yay! >>

ii. If you would like to read what I have done, I'm very happy to share the document. Just message me. I appreciate feedback – this is very much a work in progress, and I'm not an experienced poet – but even more so I appreciate people engaging with the text.

The first time I read one of my rhyming psalms aloud, it was as if my brain instinctively heard and engaged with it in a new way. I regained something. I would love to see something like that happen for others. >>

Anyway, two things: i. The reason I did this is because the Psalms were written as poetry – as 'right-brained' literature, full of the aesthetic, rhythmic, and musical qualities inherent in language, alongside rich imagery and depth of meaning. >>

That's a good one! 'Apotheke' basically means 'store', right? So it's actually changed surprisingly little in meaning over 2+ millennia.
