Not to mention the propaganda machine supporting (and even guiding) the GOP makes fomenting and propagating said outrage much easier. We can't develop a similar outrage machine; there's no market for it.

For real. AIPAC is gunning for Ossoff. Some erstwhile Democratic donors even floated the idea of recruiting Brian Kemp to run against him. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/15/u...

I do not, because 1) my salad container is too full, ideally, for there to be much movement by the ingredients within and 2) if the container fails there will be an unmitigated disaster.

I've read something in the past about (white?) American-born doctors tending to gravitate toward more lucrative specialized practices, so -- to the extent that's true -- internal medicine is *exactly* where we'd need these doctors.

Haven't read Artemis, but The Martian and PHM are also rooted in state investment in (and nations working together on) huge scientific projects for the good of mankind, which doesn't exactly scream "Libertarian"

Damn, someone should tell AIPAC that so they stop running ads against him for voting to condition aid to Israel.

The one collage of photos I've seen appear to be Patel dicking around in Cuba? Which is, as the very least, a bad look given what is happening there at the moment

I feel like those have to mostly be people who are upset that she lost. The "I want to vote for the winner" people would switch to Trump. The rest are likely "I wish I'd had a different nominee to vote for" people. It's not like Harris has done anything since the election to give them regrets...?

He's talking about someone actively pissing in a subway car, not someone just smelling bad. And I think the argument he's making is not that calling the police on the subway car pisser is the leftist position, but that the leftist position of "go ahead and piss there" is detrimental.

And some of the same people who treated Biden as 100% responsible for Gaza, as if Israel had no agency, have been quick to blame Israel for luring Trump into attacking Iran.

General racism General misogyny 2 years of incessant stories about inflation and "recession likely" by the media, as well as "Is Biden too old?" while ignoring Trump's obvious descent into dementia A number of things were against her.

Killing Iraqis in a war Collins voted for. She may not have a tattoo, but if she were so averse to Nazis, she'd fight back against her party with more than occasional concern and disappointment. Send your money to Ossoff instead.

Same, but it would be less a vote for Schumer as majority leader and more a vote against John Thune.

This is especially true for those in red areas. It can feel like you're the only one with their head on straight sometimes, but remember that a district voting 80-20 for Republicans still means 1 in 5 people do NOT vote GOP, and this helps connect with them.

A.I. chatbots contain the sum of all human knowledge. That can make them pretty good writers.

I think that's part of why the "Actual author vs AI" thing the NYT ran a few days ago may have resulted in people "preferring" AI. We're going to tend to "prefer" the thing that doesn't cause discomfort, so we're picking the passage that's NOT Cormac McCarthy.

I'm pretty sure research has shown that writing information helps you commit that information to memory significantly better than typing or just reading the info. And knowing cursive helps you develop a signature. I regret not having my youngest work on writing his name in cursive earlier...

I use cursive on checks, but 95% of the checks I've written in the past 10 years have been for payments for things at my kids' school, and I probably only do it our of nostalgia.

I think Manchin would at least have pushed back against the idea that this is the Dems' fault. Fetterman is just willingly absolving Republicans of any responsibility, even when a majority of his constituents would likely take the Dems' side.

Or in shoulder pads. Football players do this all the time. I have iffy shoulders at the moment, and I'll do this on occasion to take pressure off my shoulders even if I'm just wearing a polo. It's more comfortable than letting my arms hang.

Yeah, this is it. I used to do this when wearing shoulder pads in high school, and I occasionally do it now just with my shirt. My shoulders aren't in great condition, and it takes a little pressure off of them -- almost like a makeshift sling.
