Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 07/07/2026What if football and hockey had goal sizes based on the size of the goalies? That way you wouldn't have only gigantic goalies? 000
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 17/06/2026Thanks so much. I'm just learning how to build things in Desmos. More to follow... 010
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 05/06/2026I'm planning to build in the other forms, ssa, asa, etc. And to show why all the angles doesn't define a triangle. 000
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 05/06/2026If you bring me in to sub for your class, and don't give me anything to teach, I just end up creating silly tools like this - my first swing at the Desmos notebook. You've been warned... www.desmos.com/notebook/skr... 200
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 03/06/2026Nice. Enjoy. Let me know if you have any suggestions or feedback. 000
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 03/06/2026Is never heard of notebook. I'm just learning how to get a bit more out of the Desmos tools and having some fun. Thanks for the kind words. I have a couple more things in the works... 010
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 02/06/2026More Desmos tools. Sure, I don't see any reason to believe that anyone sees these posts, but I'm gonna keep posting... www.desmos.com/calculator/z... www.desmos.com/calculator/5... www.desmos.com/calculator/e...desmos.comThe Ambiguous Case of the Sine Law 3134
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 22/05/2026Does anyone else think that this would be a perfect time to reboot the Colbert Report? It would detail Stephen's conversion back to the living arms of the far right. 000
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 08/05/2026Just for fun, I created a model of the Ambiguous Case of the sine law in Desmos geometry. Take a look and feel free to use it if you like. www.desmos.com/geometry/6rl... 000
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 25/04/2026If you enjoy movies like Hot Rod, you owe it to yourself to watch Barb and Start Go to Vista Del Mar. Where else do you see two middle aged women as the protagonists, one who killed a woman in a hit and run, and one who trampled her husband to death at a black Friday sale? 000
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 25/04/2026Continuing my unseen series on controversial math facts... If you could select a real number completely randomly, there is a 100% chance that it would be transcendental. All the math we do is on a vanishing small portion of the real number domain. 000
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 24/04/2026This is the first, and possibly last post in the topic of provocative math thoughts. Hopefully they will be correct. The area of every circle is zero. Prove me wrong. 000
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 25/07/2025Further to that, let me just say that when I compare history to etymology, you should know that I use etymology extensively in teaching every subject, so this comparison is not intended to undercut the importance of math history. We just reach have our own neglected topics that we emphasize 000
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 25/07/2025I've been out of the country, and then away from BlueSky for a while. Sorry for the crickets from me. All analogies break down, cuz they ain't the same. That being said, I will say that someone who knows the history of math has better math knowledge. And we neglect this aspect way too much. 110
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 12/07/2025I think mathematical history is more like etymology for language. You can understand language without etymology, but there is a depth of understanding that is inaccessible without that knowledge. Just my opinion. 100
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 12/07/2025The logic here says that math consists of "isolated techniques abstracted..." and history. I would argue that the isolated techniques are like learning how to conjugate verbs, grammar, and spelling. You can learn those things, but be completely unable to write things of value. Math is good writinng 100
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 12/05/2025Trying to come up with a way to visualize the calculation of the shaded area outside a chord in a circle. This was the closest I could get. I strongly suspected that what I drew in the triangle was not a straight line. Now I get to parameterize a line! 000
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 08/05/2025Here is a surprisingly deep question. How many dimensions to a circle (Euclidean definition)? 100
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 20/04/2025An apple pie destroys the cube rule. When a pie comes from the oven, it is a calzone. When a piece is cut for you, it is a taco. When you take your first bite on your fork, it is a sandwich. If you unfold your Brooklyn style pizza, your taco becomes toast. Madness 100
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 18/04/2025I actually don't consider 'ingredient' to be a meaningful distinction. I haven't fully fleshed out my thoughts, but I would say that I need a category for any item you eat. If it's edible, that would be food. I think there are connections to set theory here 110
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 18/04/2025Also, is there a meaningful distinction between an ingredient and a dish. Does a dish or recipe have any minimum standards of edibleness? If I eat an eraser, is it a dish? 100
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 18/04/2025So, I'm testing out a new technique to head off the awkward "any plans for the night" questions from servers. I ask them first. How do you deal with those questions? 000
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 12/04/2025I'm bored of the hotdog sandwich debate. Try this one. Is rice a dish or an ingredient? Is there a recipe for a banana? @carterorieux.bsky.social . Is there a minimum requirement for a recipe? 022
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 10/04/2025So, I am devastated that I didn't learn of this event until now.media.tenor.coma cartoon character with a fist in the air and the words `` next time '' behind him .ALT: a cartoon character with a fist in the air and the words `` next time '' behind him . 000
Steve Bachiu @mrbphys.bsky.social · 09/04/2025@arimelber.bsky.social With the funding to schools like Princeton being cut for questionable reasons, is there a reason than no one has looked into asking the schools to revoke law degrees to lawyers who have been involved in the process that has been hurting the profession? 110
