Our MIC has had its snout deeply buried in the public money trough ever since WW II and has been lining its pockets rather than building up America. That’s why we are kept at war. That’s why we are kept frightened of some new threat to justify expending money […] [Original post on mastodon.world]

Another quote from the the Master, JRRT, that seems to be a message to all folk of good will in our time. It is so ordered that it is up to us to resolve this crisis. Or let the darkness overwhelm us. The choice is ours. “You have come and are here met, in […] [Original post on mastodon.world]

From a man I consider a spiritual mentor, even though I never talked to him 1:1. "Whenever men take control of God He degenerates into ... an idol, and... worship becomes little more than magic." • Jack Provonsha

“‘I wish I had never seen the Ring! Why did it come to me? Why was I chosen?’ ‘Such questions cannot be answered,’ said Gandalf. ‘You may be sure that it was not for any merit that others do not possess: not for power or wisdom, at any rate. But you have been chosen, and you must therefore use […]

Again, JRRT knew: “‘What am I to do? What a pity that Bilbo did not stab that vile creature, when he had a chance!’ ‘Pity? It was Pity that stayed his hand. Pity, and Mercy: not to strike without need. And he has been well rewarded, Frodo. Be sure that he […] [Original post on mastodon.world]

I think it is literally true that we create our own hell. I don’t for a moment believe in a cruel, vengeful God. But if there were such a thing I doubt he could do better than the hell we create for ourselves. Same with the Good News of the Kingdom. It’s not […] [Original post on mastodon.world]

JRRT knew. ‘Always after a defeat and a respite, the Shadow takes another shape and grows again.’ ‘I wish it need not have happened in my time,’ said Frodo. ‘So do I,’ said Gandalf, ‘and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide […] [Original post on mastodon.world]

I’m rereading “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” after many years. She is over dramatic, and in a Victorian style that has not aged well. But the underlying story is powerful and surprising apropos for our time. Specifically all the excuses and justifications we make for not […] [Original post on mastodon.world]

Kind of accidentally jumped on Obama’s library opening just in time for his speech. I was reminded why it believed he was the right man at the right time. Yeah, he turned out to be a corporate centrist. But electing him was a significant shift for America. If we can survive the current backlash […]
