My parents and grandparents passed away in the nineties, or even earlier. Although it isn’t unusual, to me it’s remarkable that people in their sixties still have their parents.

That went well. I started using a black primer base coat for the greyish colours to distinguish them from the primer.

MRA @mrasoft.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

The Vallejo white colour does not cover very well. A black primer base coat does not help either, as the base coat keeps showing through. So, applied paint with a brush again, removed the paint streaks using sandpaper and sprayed white again. That is how it turned out, will leave it as it is. 🤔

The Iwata Power Jet Pro seems to be the elite among compressors 😎 Over here between € 700- 725 💶 🤑 That’s a bit more than I’m willing to pay for a compressor.

I don't think the Mrs will appreciate me putting that thing in the living room near the dining table where I do my builds. 😅

The neighbour's cat visits / stalks us once in a while. She is still in the prime of her life and won't leave soon. However once in the afterlife I think she will still be around 😅

Saw this big guy at the local hardware shop. Suitable for model kits? It has an external tank 😅

Another icon has passed away: Cronos (Conrad Lant), the founder, vocalist, and bassist of the heavy metal band Venom. I have two of the band’s albums, with “Black Metal” being my favourite.

Once was in Malta at a restaurant serving so-called Indonesian food. The name of the dish did sound familiar, but I had no idea what I was actually eating. It might have been rabbit 😅 Apparently the dish had been heavily adapted to local tastes.

Only know "ayam pedis" 🇮🇩 Is "ayam pedas" also Indonesian? As my mother passed away many years ago her culinary skills regarding Indonesian dishes were lost as well. Wasn't interested in cooking whatsoever at that time.

Rather boring regarding tourists from abroad visiting the Netherlands. For them it's only the all too familiar Amsterdam 🥱

Never watched MTV TBH. On the other hand I still remember TMF from the 90's. Guess it had to do with VJ Bridget Maasland who was in her early twenties 🤩 at that time 😅 Also remembered that Laser PC. Had one and its Power Supply Unit blew up 🔥🤬 Had to do some soldering for installing a new PSU 😳

With artificial light 💡 you can't see the difference. However, in direct sunlight 🔆 you see what is silver and what is aluminium 🔎 So buying aluminium and silver paint was not a completely waste of money 🤑😅

MRA @mrasoft.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

Also a paint mystery on this quiet Sunday morning. With sunlight 🔆 one sees the difference between silver and aluminium. However with artificial light 💡 the colours are alike 🤔

Seems we're getting old ⏳ as we are from the pre Spotify generation who went to those shops that do not only sell vinyl records but pre-recorded cassette tapes as well.

One should need (army) emergency rations one still can eat after 40 years. Otherwise you have to replenish and eat the old rations before it starts to decay. Nonetheless let's hope we never will get into a situation in which we really need emergency rations.

110

MRA @mrasoft.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Like many, I already have all the stuff. However, not all together in one "emergency" box but spread all over the house 🙄

Looks like those mini strips I used to have. Some were crap, some were very good. This comic is a good one although somewhat amusing. High ranking psycho SS officer, loves hunting down his victims. The crook overestimates himself, lost the duel by surprise, in the end got shot by the good guy 😅

Paint mysteries.. did spray White-Grey (AV 71.119) but the Mustang's underside looks more Light-Gray irl 🤔 Guess spraying an extra layer might help in reducing the differences in colour 🙄🤷‍♂️

MRA @mrasoft.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

After each build the spares of unused parts grow. I put most of them in little plastic bags and I label the bags so I know where the spares came from. And like most Government policy documents, the spares are put somewhere in the "archive" to collect dust and to be lost & forgotten 😅

MRA @mrasoft.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

Have that with everything that must be locked. Fortunately it comes to my mind doing the double check while everything is still within reach.

110

MRA @mrasoft.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

Nice that they did include pilot figures anyway. Not many brands doing that nowadays.

And did they include pilot figures?

Is it from Airfix what you are building? By now Airfix is the only brand that includes pilot figures.

Not that difficult in my case. Just using: Vallejo 70510 Gloss Varnish.

Some steps to go before doing the panel lines for my WIPs. I did not (over) accentuate the panel lines in my previous builds. Have to admit the model looks better with panel lines popping out. However, that's often not the case on looking at the planes irl. What do you do with your panel lines?

Quote this with a picture of the aircraft you'll accept as a bribe. Is this a good bribe? 🤔 The Swedish Air Force donated this Saab 37 Viggen to the Aviodrome aviation museum (NL) in 2006. Exposed to the elements ever since the plane starts to decay and looks more and more weathered by the day 😳

That's the advantage of a tank. The compressor can go on for hours without a need for a break.

120

MRA @mrasoft.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

besides the 🍌be careful with other fruits as the upside down 🍍 pineapple seems to have a special meaning as well 😬🙄😅

120

MRA @mrasoft.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

I have a compressor without an external tank as I am not doing long sessions and it also needs less space. After 1 hour I was already finishing & cleaning stuff as the compressor stopped because it got too hot. How long does it take before your processor needs a break because it gets too hot?

MRA @mrasoft.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Looks good. Mixing also isn't my thing as afterwards it is a mystery what I did to get that 'perfect' colour. I could count the number of drops of paints being used for the mixture but that's too much effort for me 😰😅

010

MRA @mrasoft.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Parker is still my favourite. My writing tools (fountain pen / rollerball / ballpoint pen) are all Parker’s. Depending on the model most Parkers are not that expensive.

They did well with the Batavia. Completed in 1995, it even made some boat trips. The Batavia will be put on shore this year though. The Jean Bart is a WIP and the Zeven Provinciën used to be one. Both are/were intended to become static museum ships. Guess those ships are better comparisons.

MRA @mrasoft.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

De "Zeven Provinciën" (1665) was a flagship of Lieutenant-Admiral Michiel de Ruyter. The Batavia shipyard started building the replica in 1995. The project was put on hold indefinitely 19 years later. Pictures are from 2017. Hope Association Tourville do better in building their Jean Bart.

Pictures were taken in 2017 at the Batavia shipyard.
