After Dess' disappearance Carol repaired her plushie and kept it in a glass box. To keep her memory "frozen" in place, waiting for her return

And as much as Noelle craves to have something of her sister, something to hug at night when things get too scary... She doesn't have the guts to ask her mom for it

However in a specially awful night, she uses a card left in Dess' room to try and open the box

This translates into Jevil having to lockpick Seam out of prison, how ironic but yeah.
Jevil would never allow someone close to him to have their freedom revoked
