I think both points are true, but you also have to reckon with the structural erosion of American political institutions and the deliberate governing choices made by the GOP post-Nixon to get a full picture.

To the pull quote: if we include the 2004 election, the last 6 presidential contests have been split (GOP wins 2004, 2016, 2024; Dems win 2008, 2012, and 2020). Does anyone ever frame this in the opposite direction?

3 things here: 1) A government is not a for-profit company and should not be run as such. 2) NIH caused the pandemic? 3) What is DEI health research? True crank stuff from Vought and it’s shameful that a significant number of people in this country saw what was in Project 2025 and 🤷‍♂️.

US defense in the #goldcup tonight is almost comically bad. Letting way too many players get behind them, some shaky play from goal, and pitiful marking off corners. US very lucky to be up.

This is very well done, both in terms of delivery (he’s smooth but the bit with him failing to speak a foreign language is very relatable) and production (very clear and clean use of maps and stats).

I find it somewhat hard to take this seriously when this is a movement filled with vaccine skeptics, supplement grifters, and a slew of people who got upset when Michelle Obama suggested that better eating habits would pay off with better health outcomes for the general population. 🤷‍♂️

My very smart friend Zach is right here. The reason a lot of these stories get into the media bloodstream is because Fox picks it up and runs it at the top of every hour and weaves it into all of their all shows. It gets to a fever pitch and breaks through. No analogue vector on the left.

I don’t think the vast majority of elected democrats are “randomly defending everything that’s done under the banner of DEI.” The issue - laid bare by recent events - is that that vast majority of DEI critics are not acting in good faith and we keep trying to “give it to them” when we don’t have to

Michael Preston @mppreston.bsky.social · 16/02/2025

This has all been laid bare in the last few weeks. There is a big difference between “please call me X” and “you can’t use these words” and the current admin is leaning in on the latter sentiment. The word policing is largely a project of the right now and they’re trying to legally enshrine it by

Michael Preston @mppreston.bsky.social · 14/02/2025

Dem leadership is timid because they lost elections to Trump, a person they feel like you should self-evidently not vote for. They’ve forgotten how to make an affirmative case for what they are for, and have settled into arguing for what they’re against, which makes them reactionary by default.

Per the passage @jamellebouie.net sites, the justices are sitting by right now while the administration more or less defies judicial orders. There is actual, recent evidence of this. We don’t need to construct counter factual arguments to make this look better.
