The longest half hour of my life was between 9:58 am and 10:28 am. The thought was, “There’s only going to be one tower now.” In my mind’s eye, that half hour was an eternity, until Tower 1 collapsed and took cell reception with it in the city.

It rained the night before. I was convinced that the next day was going to be humid as hell. It wasn’t. It was an absolutely perfect day outside. I think that added to the horror of it all.
