2/ One of Roman's main objectives is to explore the universe's history and dark energy. In addition, CGI uses masks and adaptive optics to directly image older, cooler gas planets orbiting closer to their stars than ever before. MPIA's precision alignment mechanisms provide the required stability. 👀

A precision alignment mechanism is mounted on an optical bench. The device features several metallic components and a matrix of colored optical filters. Numerous cables and wires are connected to the system and extend across the surface of the bench. The surrounding area includes a textured dark surface with multiple fasteners and copper plates.

2/ Das CGI verknüpft einen Koronografen mit adaptiver Optik zur Minimierung von Bildfehlern. Das MPIA lieferte die Mechanismen zur Ausrichtung und Stabilisierung der optischen Elemente. Diese PAMs sind technische Meisterwerke, die höchste Anforderungen an die Stabilität erfüllen.
Im Mittelpunkt steht ein Präzisionsjustiermechanismus, der auf einer optischen Bank montiert ist. Das kompakte, silberfarbene Bauteil besitzt zahlreiche Öffnungen, in denen optische Filter mit unterschiedlichen Beschichtungen und Farben sichtbar sind. Mehrere Kabelbündel mit verschiedenfarbigen Isolierungen sind an das Modul angeschlossen und verlaufen geordnet über die Oberfläche der optischen Bank. Die Umgebung zeigt eine strukturierte, dunkel beschichtete Fläche mit weiteren technischen Komponenten und Befestigungselementen.

2/3 Precision matters! Our study shows a 12CO/13CO ratio consistent with the interstellar medium. This suggests that carbon isotope ratios might not be the "reliable tool" for pinpointing a planet's birthplace that we once hoped for.
