Future HOFer Hank Greenberg got traded to Pittsburgh in 1947. He befriended a young left fielder named Ralph Kiner whom he taught to pull the ball into the LF corner of Forbes Field (Kiner’s Korner). OTD in 1954, Kiner hit his record 16th Sept HR (#54). Kiner led the NL in HRs for 7 straight yrs. ⚾️👏🏻

85 yrs ago OTD the Nazis began their horrific massacre of Jews in a ravine outside of Kyiv called Babi Yar. Over a 3 day period they executed over 33,000 people and then using Russian prisoners they buried them in a mass grave there which was only uncovered later by Russian forces.Never forget😞

25 years ago OTD Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks gifted us with the #HBO classic WW2 miniseries about Easy Company called #BandofBrothers. Based on the Steven Ambrose book it chronicled the wartime experience of a tight group of US paratroopers. It is the gold standard for war movies imho.Must C 📺!🙏👏🏻

1945-OTD my late father-in-law had 1 of his greatest thrills of WW2 service.As a bombardier of the Memphis Maid,a B-29 stationed on Tinian,he had participated in 17 bombing runs over Japan. This time he did a flyover the deck of the USS Missouri where the Japanese Empire surrendered.He saw it all🇺🇸

Just rewatched the 2017 Western #Hostiles directed by Scott Cooper. With bravura performances by Christian Bale, Rosalind Pike and Wes Studi, among others in the excellent cast, and with amazing cinematography of the American West, this was a highly underrated film that packs an amazing punch. 🎥👏🏻

Both my parents are gone now.Both were survivors of Kamp Westerbork, a Nazi transit camp in the Netherlands that had a direct rail line 2 Auschwitz. No one could ever tell them that Canadian Armed forces or Canada itself weren’t great Allies.They liberated my folks on 4/12/45.DJT should be ashamed🇨🇦👏🏻

1961-Country music star Patsy Cline picked the song of a struggling singer/songwriter Willie Nelson to record and release OTD. “Crazy” is beautiful song that crossed over to the pop charts. Patsy made it her own, and Willie became a star in his own right.
