The basic Medicare Part B premium for 2027 is going up by about $188 for the year (from $202.90 to $218.60 a month). You would think that he'd make the check for that amount. Then he could claim that the GOP is offsetting the new premium increase.

What's amazing is that so many of the MAGA anti-trans culture warriors have never met a trans person. Or they have and they didn't realize it because trans people are just--people. But, then, the stupidity and ignorance of the average Republican who is swayed by these appeals is off the charts.

Really? Do you remember the Gaza folks in the last election? Those who said, "Don't vote for Harris--it will teach the Dems a lesson." It very much damaged the Dems and made life worse for the Palestinians. A real two-fer in terms of the effects of bad judgment. Stupid is as stupid does.

Property taxes aren't based on the GAIN in the property's value. The tax is based on value period. If the actual value of stocks were taxed annually, the American economic system would collapse. Small investors wouldn't invest at all. New firms would have less access to needed capital.

That Paxton is within 20 points of Talarico doesn't speak well for the citizens of Texas. I don't care how "red" the state is, people have to have at least minimal standards for their candidates. Paxton is a terrible person and a lousy public official. A vote for him is a vote for corruption.

If the goal of the ad is to let people know how much noise a data center creates, get rid of the piano music in the background. It may be there for dramatic effect, but it compromises the message. Let people hear the data center noise--and only the noise.

How much of a choice do they have when it comes to accepting these ads? Better off to run them so that their viewers can see them--and laugh at them. Would you like Fox to keep ads from Dems off the air? The issue of where the money comes from needs to--and will--be litigated. It's separate.

He's contemplating a run for POTUS. MS NOW is a news channel. Unlike Fox, it's not a front for a political party. Rahm isn't likely going to get any traction if he runs, but he has a viewpoint that's worth air time. Agree. Disagree. But their responsibility is to cover the news.

Ethics codes for the judiciary are nice, but they're worthless if they're not enforced. In this administration, who would do that? Create such a code, but don't rely on it alone. Create structures that limit the opportunities for judges to benefit from outside influences.

The steel mill in Iowa is vaporware. This is the Foxconn plant in Wisconsin redux. The economics of this plant make no sense, but that's not the point. It's just a distraction to attract votes for Iowa's GOP candidates for governor and senator.

Expand to 17 as part of a larger modernization of the judicial system. Add three Circuit Courts (go from 13 to 16) by dividing the 9th Circuit into three and the 5th in half. Each SC Justice (other than Chief) gets one circuit. After one SC term, have each case heard by nine chosen at random.

mpguy29.bsky.social @mpguy29.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Even if Dems control both the House and Senate, fixing the SC is not an option. They won't have enough votes to override a veto by Trump. Nobody should hold that against them. This will take control of both chambers AND having a Dem POTUS.

mpguy29.bsky.social @mpguy29.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Republicans will try to convince the largely uninformed public that Dems are responsible for anything that's bad, even if they only hold the House. (And they'll probably succeed.) So they might as well have the Senate, where they can conduct more investigations and block tRump's nominees.

Probably true, but there are far too many who acquiesce to the bad. 73 million voting for tRump in 2024 indicates that there's a sickness within our society that we have to deal with.

Shortsighted tRump doesn't think about how many ways a Dem POTUS could turn that "national security" argument back against the right-wing media. If his argument prevails, one of the first things that next Dem should do is to ban Fox from the room.

That's only true under the present Senate rules. Those are determined at the start of each session by majority vote. If Dems were to get, say 56 or 57 seats (yes, that's a stretch), they could vote to have 55 or some other number represent the required number of votes to overcome a filibuster.

I'm surprised at how close the Senate races are in Louisiana and Mississippi. Both are within four points. That's almost within the margin of error. If Dems in those two states would just get off their backsides and vote in huge numbers, those two races are winnable.

Some company was selling external hard drives a while ago with the slogan, "Get a cloud of your own." I don't know why more people don't. You can't count on cloud storage, either. Microsoft One Drive just lost one of my really important spreadsheets and nobody seems to know how to find it.

The WH press corps might as well walk away. It isn't like he actually answers questions. Or that the press gets reliable facts from him. We would get the same amount of real news from these "press availabilities" if tRump were the only one in the room. Just less Donnie bloviating.

One big difference is that the USA was much more unionized in the late '70s, so wages did a better job of keeping up with inflation. That cost-push element is one reason the inflation rate was so high and continued to ratchet up. Even though the rate was much higher, it didn't feel as screwed up.

Closing the Kennedy Center until (one hopes) January 2029 is the best course of action. Just leave it as it is. Trump and his Board of Lackeys aren't going to do anything that improves the situation. The next Dem POTUS can work with Congress to do whatever renovations/improvements are necessary.

Trump is a coward, like most bullies. Under him, America has become the world's foremost bully. Attack those who are smaller and weaker, while quaking in his boots and deferring to those who are big and strong enough to stand up to him.

Yes. I agree. My proposal is to "update" the SC by going to 17, with each case being heard by 9 chosen at random starting one year after the final new Justice is confirmed. I would also create three new Circuits. Each SC Justice would have one Circuit (at random), except for the Chief Justice.

They can be impeached--brought to trial--but there's zero chance that any of them will be removed. If your goal is to shine a light on some of the more obvious corruption and their loyalty to Trump (as opposed to the Constitution), go for it. If you're looking for results--it's a waste of time.

He posted one the other day with him wearing a Team USA uniform standing over a fallen Carney. My first thought was how backward that was. Wouldn't it be fun to actually see them on the ice. Which is where Donnie would be, since I doubt that he can skate, while Carney played at NCAA Div 1.

2/ Lower egg prices are something Repubs take credit for. Charles Blow of the NYT just made this reference on MS NOW. It's time to stop using that as a proxy for a lack of affordability. The fact that Dems allowed Trump to benefit from the Bird Flu epidemic in 2024 was political malpractice.

mpguy29.bsky.social @mpguy29.bsky.social · 10/09/2026
1/ Dems and those in the MSM need to stop referring to the price of eggs as a problem for American consumers. Eggs were expensive several years ago because we had an H5 Bird Flu epidemic. It reduced the supply of egg-laying chickens. That's no longer the case.

Do I have this right? Trump was charging candidates $25K to $100K to attend. But there were so few commitments that the organizers had to scramble by giving away thousands of free tickets to attend the event because they were worried about the optics of a largely vacant arena?

The whole theme of this convention is "Let's Pretend." Let's pretend that: 1. Trump is on the ballot. 2. Paxton isn't one of the biggest crooks in politics. 3. Most people are benefiting from the economy. 4. Democrats are evil communists. 5. Citizens would actually get that $5,000 bribe.
