I knew NOTHING about Forgotten Island. Never saw an ad or trailer. I just kept hearing people say it was much better than the marketing suggested. Saw it today and really enjoyed it! I know it’s struggling at the box office, but I hope it finds an audience once it hits streaming.

The most surprising #film of #TIFF for me was #HaChanShakeYourBooty! A Brilliant story about Ballroom Dancers in Tokyo after they suffer a tragedy. Equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking, this film was EVERYTHING. My #Review is live at #FilmsFatale! #FilmSky www.filmsfatale.com/blog/2026/9/...

This multi-armed creature chasing Brian in Resident Evil immediately reminded us of a similar thing seen at the end of Evil Dead Rise. However, we both agreed that Resident Evil does it MUCH better. The movement references from the stunt team obviously helped them as a good reference for the CGI.

Austin Abrams as Brian is a HUGE Cause of Celebration in the new Resident Evil. He’s overwhelmed, scared, and clearly NOT built for any of this. 😂 But he’s also just a genuinely good person, which makes him incredibly easy to root for. Plus, he’s a lot of fun to watch!

I watched Avengers: Endgame Encore yesterday. I rated Endgame 2.5 stars when it was released 7 years ago, but since then the quality of the MCU has dipped so much that it doesn’t seem as bad now. 😅 Still flawed. But seeing this after COVID and some personal losses make some points hit harder.

Infographic review of Avengers Endgame Encore. The rating is 3 out of five stars.
The main text of the review says:

Seven years later,
the flaws remain,
but sting less.
The time-travel plot,
forced humor, and
endless callbacks still
frustrate, yet the
core Avengers shine.
Grief hits harder,
and the finale
still delivers. An
uneven but fitting
end to Marvel’s
remarkable first saga.

Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil film is the 8th (live action) film in this long running franchise. It’s the first to actually get a positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I know critic scores aren’t everything. I’ve only seen the 2002 and 2026 films. Are any of the others worth a watch in your opinion?

Gollum is one of the biggest reasons The Two Towers works so well. Andy Serkis’ performance makes Gollum feel like a real character rather than just a visual effect. He alternates between being funny, pathetic, frightening, and tragic … sometimes in the same scene!

I spent WAY too much time in our Two Towers episode asking why Arwen couldn’t just make Aragorn immortal by giving him some kind of elf-vampire bite. 😂 I feel like I’ve stumbled on untapped potential with this. Fantasy experts: are elf-vampire bites that transfer elf powers really not a thing?

This is something I’ve noticed with my much younger cohost too. When I call a movie “old,” I’m usually thinking 1940s–60s. For him, “old” is something from 1995-2005. 😂 This is one of the fun things about talking about movies across generations. #FilmSky #MovieSky
