So I picked up a second book to read at the same time Book 28 of '26 The Battle of Spain - Antony Beevor 3⭐ A much more straight forward, chronological retelling of the conflict that gave me more of what I expected from a conventional history of a conflict. 💙📚

Which lead me to picking up and now finishing book 27 of 2026 The Spanish Holocaust by Paul Preston 4⭐ I picked this one in part because it was directly recommended by the Book Club - Dom and Tabby. www.thebookclubhq.com 📚💙

Book 26 or ‘26 For Whom the Bell Tolls - Hemingway 5⭐️ Contender for my favourite book of the year. 📚💙 The trick of writing the Spanish sections as literally translated is brilliant and is fully revealed once we switch back to the protagonist, who is American, and the writing is normal English.

Almost on a whim, I started reading this. 💙📚 I love when a book speaks from the past ans you recognize dialogue that could be from today. He is a communist, she said. "They are very serious 'Are you a communist?' 'No I am an anti-fascist.' 'For a long time?' 'Since I have understood fascism.

Book 25 of 2026 4⭐️ 📚💙 Very good, very enjoyable and also very Stephen King. There were very few surprises - except that I thought it was a stand alone and it definitely is not - tying in firmly to his shared universe.

Book 22 of 2026 Mrs Dalloway. Virginia Woolf. Well… I don’t know what to say. This is an impressive work, though is it an enjoyable read is a different question. 💙📚

Reading update I’ve been bouncing off MRS Dalloway. The prose is tough to crack. Or was, until I started reading it aloud to myself. Now, I’m zipping along! #lizadoolittle 📚💙

Book 20 of ‘26 Mistborn ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 My first time visiting with Mr Sanderson. This was pretty good but certainly not memorable enough to immediately vault him onto the rankings where many put him. Read like a YA novel. A good one. But still. Romance was cringe. Magic system was cool. 💙📚

Alright. I have read all the Murderbotz. I love Murderbot. But. I think it can be too much programmer language. These are best consumed one at a time. Not binged. Im à fan through and through. 🪐📚💙📚

Black Hammer Omnibus Vol.2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 📚💙📚🪐 Good but not as strong as the first omnibus. The joy of being introduced to these off-brand versions of Golden Age characters that we gin in book 1 cannot be replicated and the spiralling tale circles the drain a few too many times.

Black Hammer Omnibus vol 1 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Jeff Lemire is one of my favourite Canadian writers. Comic writers. Writers. He’s one of my favourite writers. This story is an incredible homage/reimagining/tribute to superhero stories of yesteryear. 📚💙 📚🪐

Book 7 King Sorrow Joe Hill 4.5⭐️ What if the Scooby Gang summoned a monster? Loved it. Loses half a star for losing momentum and going on too long at the end. It’s not fair to immediately compare him to his dad, but this is a Stephen King book through and through with all that implies.Recommend📚💙
