Alton Brown's Cutthroat Kitchen: Parent Edition. The secret ingredient is ramen noodles. The seasoning has expired. You can plate until the kids lose their minds and then whatever's gets served. Winners get fifteen minutes of free time.

Please consider sending this to your council member (CC mayor) with a description of why it's a safety issue. Curb guy will balk and that's ok. He was never going to help. You can still get him on record.

Strauss lost his appointments to a mini tyrant and kissed Harrell's ring to defund the city. He's been a poor representative for D6 for some time. The only reason Dan did so well in the last election is because his completion was entirely unprepared and unserious.

Driving an e-vehicle the other day and had a sad reaching for the stick shift and clutch, like can't we pretend? There's fifty non tactile touchscreens and all I'm asking for is one vestigial stick and pedal.

Just getting to the age that emergency drawing kit could be good entertainment too. Older kid is ENTHRALLED by Minecraft and betcha a diy "here's a base Minecraft silhouette— you customize them" could be fun with colored pencils.

One of my grandfathers was an engineer who had reams of ultra detailed graph paper for math plotting by hand. I think it's still common in architecture too. So my kids totally doodle on graph paper note cards because a hipster pda never dies it just takes inventory.

No obligation— if it comes to asking the school a question about their tech policy then I'd like to be real specific and factual in that correspondence. Definitely appreciate the heads up!

That same MDM software can do a lot without making itself widely known. It's possible YouTube can be limited in non-obvious ways. Would be useful context to understand what problematic content accessed on a school issued iPad and how the school administration responded.

So the impression I got having one of those devices in my hands last year was: There is absolutely enterprise monitoring software on the iPads deployed by MDM that can also be used for forensics. What's enabled is a matter of policy that can be changed.

Enrollment been under contention for decades and mediocre kids end up at colleges like Texas Tech. Given the local weirdos muck directly with the education any discounts are not worthwhile. The whole idea of Texas as a 'deal' is just marketing to pave over the problems there.

This 💯 — acting like nothing has changed is absolutely wild enough to call out in everyday conversation. The city used to be covered by gray clouds all winter with a rain so light you could never tell if it was really raining or not. It was not cold— the clouds acted like a blanket over the sound.

Near-record warmth hits Seattle 76 years after only zero-degree day
Decades ago, Seattle saw its first, and only, day with a recorded temperature of zero degrees Fahrenheit. While a brutal arctic freeze hit the Emerald City on Jan. 31, 1950, today we saw temps reach a...

I dunno that anyone's gonna answer a question like that for you satisfactory. My point is more like, where's the buffet of open roles? Most individuals still can't duck out of the market for a hot minute to raise kids without getting dinged on hiring prospects as it stands today.

Ghost in the Shell SAC is a movie on a bunch of individuals who all start acting the same way at the same time. The movie asks— What if there was no actual coordination? It's what I'm wondering in both cases.

Ahhh, I see— Stokes is an intentionally coordinated swarm solving one math problem? Yeah the comms is impressive in both cases. Really curious much much was promoting versus an emergent pattern. Do instances communicate the same way in both or using entirely different methods?

Giant companies succeed with GenAI because the process was already codified on paper. Midcap companies run on institutionalization instead of codified policy which does not transfer one to one to LLMs— getting value from LLMs requires the codified docs because it's all LLMs are a gradient search.
010
Mossy Dev @mossydev.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Two things stand out in the replies: 1. Conclusive evidence for LLM cognition is anecdotal. 2. All-in-on-it folks tend to believe in cognition anyways. LLMs as a helpful assistant has me bullish but explicit prompting is still required. It's one abstraction level so far.

Really wish there was a way to get independent verification on what was detected: the stroller or the fallen kid in a crosswalk. If the a fallen kid l then wow, but if only the stroller then also wow—except in an extremely concerned way.
