I quite like tardigrades. There will probably be quite a bit of crochet, dressmaking and maybe some science. Also cat.

I'm reading it at the moment and loving it. It manages to be so absurd and so real at the same time! And very funny.

Another Manchester Half completed on Sunday! An improvement on last year and I ran negative splits, so I'm very pleased. I'll never be more than average, but I'm getting closer to where I was before all the shenanigans 🙂. What a beautiful day and fantastic support!🏅 #running #runsky

I should clarify: a great solvent in the lab context. Absolutely do not put it on your skin.

I used to use it in a lab. It's a great solvent for things that don't dissolve in other stuff but you have to be very careful if you've got anything harmful in solution because it's very bioavailable. Also if you do get it on your skin you can immediately taste it. Not recommended.

Science says the nasal sprays have a small preventative effect, so bring the probability down a little, and can reduce severity. Mask on him will be more effective than on you, better still, both. Good ventilation and hand hygiene.

No. They are being disingenuous It was announced in parliament on the 25th March. Which is when the backdating would go to. Reform staged a walkout of parliament on that day.

Issue 4! I'm excited, but Captain is underwhelmed. @unchcrosswords.com

It's in the construction of the pocket. Particularly welt pockets. You whipstitch it closed so that it lines up correctly and doesn't go misshapen when you are completing the garment. I guess they might leave the stitching in once it's finished for the reason you say, though.

I'm disappointed by the turnout but encouraged by the result given that low turnout usually favours the likes of Reform. The second choice system is a bit more representative than fptp even with a poor turnout.

Moss Piglet @mosspiglet.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
A chunk of the voter population in Manchester are students so the timing has affected turnout. And voter ID is known to suppress voter numbers (by up to 5% in a recent paper). Also there was a weird lack of press coverage, even locally. Turnout was bad, but there are a few caveats.

I realise that's not the whole story. There was a weird lack of press coverage, even locally. I'm encouraged by the result, given that low turn out usually favours Reform. At least the second choice system means a more representative result than fptp even with lower turnout.

I agree that it's disappointing. It would have been higher if the election was in term time. The student population in Manchester is significant. Also a research paper published last year showed that voter ID trialled in 2018 in a local election in London reduced turnout by between 4 and 5%

It was not hard to understand. It was set out clearly in the ballot. It is the system originally used for elected mayors in the early 2000s. Many people will just have chosen to not select a second candidate - which they are fully entitled to do. Fptp is less representative.

Moss Piglet @mosspiglet.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
I agree it's shockingly low. But not helped by the fact that a chunk of people resident and registered to vote in Manchester are students and they are mostly not here at the moment. Also I suspect significant recent voter fatigue in the region (no excuse, I know) and weirdly muted press coverage.

Agree dog breeding is for the most part horrific, but apparently dogs with short spine syndrome can adapt well and live relatively normal, healthy lives with a little adjustment.

Dolly wears another Margo pinafore in a lovely mossy corduroy from The Cloth Fox in Lymington www.theclothfox.co.uk - Pattern by Merchant & Mills. I took the time to bind the seams on this one: you could almost wear it inside out!

Road tax isn't a thing any more, though, and hasn't been since the 30s. Roads are funded through general and local taxation so we all pay. Vehicle Excise Duty is a tax on the vehicle, not road use, and is based on emissions nowadays.

The H2O2 would have been pretty diluted in such a large volume of water. And breaks down in the light and warm conditions into oxygen and water so probably won't do much harm, thankfully. But it will have been ineffective at tackling the algae in the amounts they seem to have used.

That said, on the day of my colonoscopy when they found the tumour and diagnosed me (and I saw it grinning at me on the screen) Garmin told me I had had an easy and low stress day and suggested I do some yoga 😄

I'm torn because I do agree with this, but then my Garmin picked up on changes that turned out to be cancer. It kept saying I was overreaching/strained with normal training for me. Turns out a colorectal tumour was making me anemic. I'm better now and trying to wean myself off the stats watching!
