I really hope people to read and have their own judgements and not just rely on the internet scuttlebutt. A lot of things people griefed over online made sense to me when I saw it in context. There are issues I have, but not enough to burn it in effigy (yet, I’m about 3/4 through).

It's also a half-reason why I am anxious to share anything I write. I have what I can only describe as "editing anxiety". I have had experiences where I feel that my voice was legit overwritten at times, and I had to sound like something else entirely. It didn't feel like my writing anymore.

I stopped paying attention to about 60% of the commentary about the book when the bashing started before there was even a legal copy out there to read AND people were outright saying "let's 🏴‍☠️ the book and review bomb it!" That part right there. We are applying Real Life Brain to Fantasy Scenario, and while it can apply to a degree, we have to keep that in mind that our elf vampire’s behavior may not be exactly in the box we expect, especially as a younger spawn.

Definitely, especially in Book of Hungers, which is the newest version of things. I believe there are older version where DnD contradicts itself a few ways (as many longstanding RPG franchises do). Also: Mmmm. Dhampir. :)

Based on everything I've been gathering, it can range from "doesn't eat food" to "fake it until you make it" to "it depends on the vampire." All of it depending on what version of DnD you're running with, etc. And...he didn't eat them. Just dipped them in blood.

I've also seened mixed theories about food and vampires and there be both conflicting and sometimes dependent on the vampire. Astarion was drinking non-blood wine at the tiefling party in-game, and saying it tasted bad, reinforces that (for me at least).

I personally thought the food was less being "eaten" in the real sense and took it as more for appearances. There was one person who "ate" a single cube of cheese, and the comment about Astarion stirring strawberries into blood, but it didn't seem like "real" eating to me, and didn't seem enjoyable.
