When you launch #ArmaReforger Game Master, you'll play on... 14 August. Happy #Everon default day! ☀️

For comparison, #EnfusionEngine easily manages over half a million trees in #ArmaReforger.

Want to create massive environments, but your early 2000s game engine can't handle tens of thousands of trees to fill them? No problem, just build forests from 50×50 m meshes. Still one of my favorite #OperationFlashpoint dev tricks.

My wife was painting a bookshelf for the kids' room, but all I see is a video game level.

Did you know that on #Arma3 Tanoa, you can set a date and time when the sun is directly overhead, making shadows disappear? It's called the subsolar point and happens twice a year within the tropics. Try it out!

✨ TIL that China uses its own constellations, and even has a unique system of star designations. For example, Alpha Centauri is 南門二, meaning Southern Gate 2. This system predates the Western one by hundreds of years.

On this day 20 years ago, I released Nightmare, my third mission for #OperationFlashpoint. It was my first work I promoted using movie-like posters, in an era when everyone else used low-res screenshots. Might've even started a trend back then.

Finally had time to play Rookie, a short scenario by Václav 'Sarge' Kerber. It's a remake of his #Arma3 mission of the same name, but even though I knew what was coming, the tense atmosphere still spooked me. Give it a try!

🌌 This is how the authentic night sky is configured in #Arma3. Look closely and you can spot the Milky Way band.

I grew up with C&C games, so I love seeing them receive Steam Workshop support and have their source code published for free. I'm not surprised that it took a modder—Luke Feenan—to spearhead this project. Game dev, as always, is about people sharing their passion ❤️

Of 13k+ games released on Steam in 2024, only 13% used a proprietary engine, yet they made up 42% of the revenue! But the tide is shifting, as more and more big studios abandon their well-established engines in favor of Unreal. As for us, #EnfusionEngine is here to stay!

Arma 3 players: Vanilla artillery computer is not fun, let's mod in realistic artillery tables. Arma Reforger players: Vanilla mortar tables are not fun, let's create online artillery calculators.

I've seen several people not making the connection until recently, so here's a reminder: Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis is the first Arma game. The series was renamed due to publisher disputes, but still builds on the milsim grandfather you so fondly remember.

My toddler son saw me reading a "nice book about a cat." I told him the cat wouldn't find it nice. We are both right.

Did you notice how #ArmaReforger on #PS5 uses DualSense’s adaptive triggers to simulate real weapon mechanisms? Pull the trigger and it resists a bit, but becomes loose once no round is chambered. Engage weapon safety, and it stiffens completely. Every detail matters!

Do you also feel nostalgic for "real is brown" games? I used to loathe how sepia hues dominated late 00s shooters, but now, looking back, I see it as a unique artistic expression of that era.

Many of you are exploring the Zone in the new S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and some of you even played the first game. But who here remembers Conspiracies, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-inspired mod for #OperationFlashpoint?

The geothermal power on plant is a natural navigation hub on #Sakhal. Crossed a pipeline or power line? Follow it to get there, and secure high-tier loot from recently added military encampment. The station may not produce electricity anymore, but power is still hidden there. (10/10)
040
Karel Mořický @moricky.com · 22/11/2024
Meanwhile, electricity generated by the turbines is routed to the substation, where it's transformed to 110 kV and sent to the grid. The plant generates enough electricity to power island's cities, factories, and military bases. Or it did, before the infection outbreak. (9/10)

Once the steam leaves turbines, it’s sent to the cooling tower where it condenses back into water. As it now completed its purpose, it's reinjected back to ground. This process helps maintain reservoir pressure and ensures long-term sustainability. (8/10)
130
Karel Mořický @moricky.com · 22/11/2024
Dry saturated steam is devoid of any droplets that could damage turbine blades. The power plant has two turbines hidden in the main building. From there the personnel can reach all other parts of the station through covered bridges, without having to go outside. (7/10)
130
Karel Mořický @moricky.com · 22/11/2024
Geothermal fluid enters the station at the separator building, where its pressure is reduced. This causes part of the hot water to "flash" into steam. Second stage then removes the remaining water (brine). It's because generators need clean, dry saturated steam. (6/10)
130
Karel Mořický @moricky.com · 22/11/2024
In less extreme conditions, first-stage separators would be placed directly at well sites. But because the weather makes accessing and maintaining wells nearly impossible in winter, their design is kept as simple as possible. (5/10)
130
Karel Mořický @moricky.com · 22/11/2024
It all starts with production wells that pump geothermal fluid made of hot, high-pressure water and steam. Some are near the plant, others closer to the volcano. Once pumped, pipelines bring the water to the plant for separation. (4/10)
130
Karel Mořický @moricky.com · 22/11/2024
The power plant is inspired by a real place—Mutnovskaya Power Station in Kamchatka. It's a flash steam power station, meaning it doesn’t use steam directly but extracts hot water and turns it into steam in separators. This is the most common type among geothermal plants. (2/10)

The geothermal power plant is a major landmark on DayZ's #Sakhal. But how does it work? What’s the building with the big fans for? Where do all the pipes lead? Follow this thread, so you can impress your friends with engineering facts the next time you visit. 🧵 (1/10)

Lou, Arma's Technical Writer and code rebel, conducted an in-game land area survey. The result? #Everon has 51.65 km², #Arland 6.38 km², and both are now littered with green debug shapes! 🟢

In 2010, on my first trip to the USA to see the space shuttle Discovery, I planned to view an RAH-66 Comanche prototype at Fort Rucker. Alas, because of the launch delays, I had to cancel. It’s still there on display—visit if you have a chance! (17/17) armyaviationmuseum.org/our-collecti...

In #Arma3, the RAH-66 Comanche inspired the AH-99 Blackfoot, a fictionalized variant of the iconic helicopter. The upcoming Expeditionary Forces CDLC even introduces a heavily-armed version. (15/17)

Karel Mořický @moricky.com · 14/11/2024
In When The World Ends, my #OperationFlashpoint opus magnum, I combined my love for the Comanche with my passion for stealth games, creating a mission where you avoid boat patrols and hide in radar shadow, Splinter Cell-style. (13/17)

Karel Mořický @moricky.com · 14/11/2024
That’s why it appears so often in popular media. Beyond the Comanche game series, it’s featured in movies like Hulk or strategy games like C&C Generals and Tom Clancy’s EndWar. In fact, it was in Tom Clancy’s Debt of Honor novel that I first fell in love with it. (11/17)
130
Karel Mořický @moricky.com · 14/11/2024
RAH-66 Comanche, despite its impressive features, was canceled in 2004. Designed to excel on the Cold War battlefield, it found no role in the era of asymmetrical warfare dominated by drones. But let’s face it—no drone has ever matched the Comanche's cool factor. (10/17)

Karel Mořický @moricky.com · 14/11/2024
But when needed, the helicopter could ignore these stats and trade stealth for firepower. By adding external weapon racks, ground crews could turn it from a light recon aircraft into a powerful gunship. And yet, this versatility wasn’t enough to save it from cancellation. (9/17)
