Less than 6 degrees of separation there. I would wager that this sudden preponderance of gambling sites and activity has right-wing DNA. There's millions being made by that lobby who has influence in Conservative circles who have altered legislation to allow it against all wisdom.

I'm a recovering Conservative. Today's Conservatives are quite unlike the fiscally responsible, hands off, smaller government, somewhat progressive Conservatives of Lougheed's era. They're clamoring to be just like Trump's Republicans. Christian Nationalist populist demagogues on the far right.

No, thankfully. She's pretty supportive of her kid. I know kids who are emotionally abandoned. Here in SOAB, the UCP anti trans legislation put a bunch of kids directly in harm's way. And stripped them of charter (and human) rights.

They're in a bit of turmoil. We might see a leader change, there are figures who would be better at the fight. The federal NDP is focusing on the LEAP manifesto and seems reluctant to weigh in on AB. The new Tory gang hasn't enough mass. It will be disgruntled UCP that will turn the tide. Maybe.

Oddly, and it perplexes me, Conservative women are among the UCP's most loyal supporters. It's a toxic dissonance. There's a fundamentalist cult dynamic that completely blinkers them. I know of no stronger example of in-group behavior. To criticize the tribe is a capital offense.

A drive around Lethbridge and Taber counties will help you understand who has the ear of the UCP. A pro-life billboard every few miles. Christian Nationalists with very deep pockets and influence. Many of them on UCP political donor lists. Pro-convoy, anti-vax, anti-immigrant, anti-woke racists.

So just about everything I have and everything I am is rooted three generations deep in Alberta. I'm sickened by what it is morphing into before my eyes. I'm saddened that it has made enemies out of friends, neighbors, and families. I'm mourning what has died. The cancer hasn't claimed us all.
