I touch on it in my new changeling book (not published yet), but it deserves further exploration.

Morgan Daimler @morgandaimler.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

The idea that these women were changelings may have been how their community understood the symptoms they presented and may explain stories of women being "rescued" and returned (as the symptoms resolved).

Some day I will write a paper about the possibility that new mothers accused of being changelings were actually suffering from post partum depression or psychosis.

Friendly reminder that Lúnasa isn't generally associated with weddings & the idea of it being Lugh's wedding is modern. There's no mythology or older folklore supporting this idea. The word lughnasadh does not mean wedding of Lugh. Nasadh means funeral games or assembly, later just games or assembly

Myths are recorded and shared in books but exist beyond that, embedded into the landscape in which they take place. Here we will explore the power of these stories through the lens of landscape and the ways that these ties can deepen our understanding of and connection to the Gods we seek. We will also explore how new stories can be anchored in our world to further connect us to the numinous.

Don't miss out on this weekend of presentations by engaging speakers and teachers, bardic circle, ritual, unique vendors, and the warmth of community as women and Sisters gather around our community hearth fire!

Today's Irish myth/folklore fun fact: Although most well known today as a king of the sidhe in Galway, Finnbheara is also one of the Tuatha Dé Danann. The Altram Da Tige Medar tells us that he is the youngest son of the Dagda.

18 May today, time for my yearly translation of a Joy Division song into Old Irish to honour the passing of Ian Curtis in 1980. This time: "Digital" (1978). These are rather abstract lyrics. There are multiple ways of reading the words in a way that have relevance today. @jd-central.bsky.social

Irish myth fun fact Although widely assumed to be a sun god today Lugh wasn't associated with the sun until the Celtic Revival period, when the poets & artists of the day seized on a description of Lugh coming over a hill "like the sun rising in the west" in the Oidheadh Chlainne Tuireann.

random tip: hagstones (aka holey stones, ie a stone with a natural hole through it) protect against malefic magic and fairies. Among other uses they were traditionally hung in barns to keep fairies from harassing the horses and elf-locking their manes at night.
