Genuinely amazing that this was done on a clean-room engineering too! This meant that not a single line of Cubism's work was taken/used in the process of making the whole thing.

I write most things in plaintext/Markdown files not because of portability reasons, but because of a well-honed trauma of breaking my X11 config which required me to read everything with my terminal pager like I'm accessing a mainframe in Switzerland.

Even though I was such a massive fan of Undertale (I had the souls/hearts as enamel pins too!), I didn't enjoy Deltarune nearly as much. Maybe it's because Undertale felt very special and unique at the time -- or maybe because the writing didn't jive as much with me.

You know, I've never been anti-'AI' -- the papers I did were about soft computing -- but we really have completely reframed the term 'AI' to just mean ChatGPT and co. And unfortunately, that does muddy up the water when talking about the /other/ 'AI' that aren't a stochastic parrot.

Many of you are familiar with the double-tap-to-wake feature, now a very common feature in phones and tables. But did you know that back then we had to hack the feature in with custom kernels? In fact, we had two other similar features: sweep2wake and logo2wake. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuNJ...

Whenever people ask, "what's a good app I can make to learn programming?" the most obvious answers are apps like to-do lists or text editors. But there's a secret third answer: a damage calculator for MMOs you play. If you're going into this rabbit hole, you might as well go as deep as you can.

I've known ELIZA for a little while now -- I'm still fond of the BASIC port that I saw when I studied NLP -- but I never realised that the original code was actually available too! Context: ELIZA was one of the earliest 'chatbot' programs, written in 1966! The 'ELIZA effect' was named after it.

A scan of a line-printer listing showing a snippet of MAD-SLIP source code. The page header reads "PRINT, TO109,2531,SPEAK,MAD" with the routine name "CHANGE MAD." The code begins with declarations including EXTERNAL FUNCTION (KEY,MYTRAN), NORMAL MODE IS INTEGER, and ENTRY TO CHANGE. Additional lines define lists and variables such as V'SG(1)=$TYPES,$SUBSTS,$APPENDS,$ADDS,$STARTS,$RANKS,$DISPLAS and FIT=0. Labels including CHANGE, IDENT, and THEMA appear in the left margin, followed by statements like PRINT COMMENT $PLEASE INSTRUCT ME$, JOB=POPTOP.(INPUT), PRINT COMMENT $CHANGE NOT RECOGNIZED$, and logic involving KEY(I) and DISPLA.

I accidentally popped into YouTube Studio's Inspirations tab. Some of the topics here are admittedly interesting to discover, but the horrendous titles and thumbnails made me want to NOT feed YouTube what it wants. So, instead, I figured I'd talk about these topics here, in this thread! (1/7)

A screengrab of a grid of six YouTube-style video cards featuring technology and engineering topics. The thumbnails show stylised AI-generated illustrations, and the titles are: "Evaluating the Viability of Linux Gaming on RISC-V Architecture This Year", "The Secret History of Why Your Keyboard Is Not in Alphabetical Order Anymore", "Why Your Laptop Battery Stops Charging at Exactly Eighty Percent to Save Itself", "The Rise of Immutable Distributions and the Death of Traditional Package Management", "Why Your New Smart Fridge Needs a Faster Processor Than an Old Supercomputer", and "The Hidden Reason Why Modern Electronics Still Use Lead in Their Solder".

While this is a good advice, do note that URL parameter/query string is /NOT/ indicative of a tracker. It's a valid technique for injecting variables into a URL, but it has been abused by many websites. One good example of its use is to tell a website which part of an article you're quoting!

My favourite phase in making videos for my channel, be it a longer video or Shorts, is that time when I have to ask myself, "am I communicating this for myself, or for others?" Because I do believe that a technical topic shouldn't be limited to those that understand the jargon(s)!

Yes, this entire exploit isn't new. Yes, it happened before too (2018 had a similar case of this happening). No, I don't think the AUR has improved since then, hence why we still have this issue 8 years later. youtu.be/r6cppD3UnQE

One of the aches that people always bring up regarding Linux is the community. And that's fair, Linux communities are always a toss-up: you either meet people that'll deliberately troubleshoot with/for you, or people that'd dismiss your struggles with "well, don't use Linux like WinDOOZE."

About 400+ packages in the Arch User Repository were compromised with malware. This thread is a wake up call NOT to fully trust community-submitted packages /or/ the blanket statement that Linux is 'more secure'. A big enough platform will entice bad actors. lists.archlinux.org/archives/lis...

There are two sides in me: one that loves UI with personality (yes, this goes out to you Aero, Luna, and Aqua fans) and one that understands the accessibility constraints that arose from those designs. It's not that we can't do both, but somehow we've collectively agreed that this is an either-or.

I don't think enough people know the difference here: clean room reverse engineering is /hard/. It's the worst game of telephone I've ever had to do in my field: you're told to make "something that moves, it's got wheels, some have three but most have four" and you have no concept of what a car is.
