The best I can do is a cat breed homophone with Morgaine Coon Cat. Smokefleet adjacent. 🤷‍♀️ NAFO 🤝 #smokefleet

This is my very first pysanka. I had zero feel for the ideal wax temperature, so the lines are as crooked as a politician, as my Papaw would say. I feel it's a decent attempt for a complete novice who watched a single 90 second video and read what I could find online.

For the Fellas not over on The Bad Place, you've missed my artistic journey of learning to write pysanky. Yes, that is a bavovna pysanka. 😏

A pysanka, a Ukrainian decorated egg with a non-traditional design of dark billowing clouds of smoke rendered in deep reds, grey, and black. A bavovna pysanka.

A pysanka decorated so that the body of it looks like a watermelon with vines and leaves lying across the surface.

An egg carton full of finished pysanky. Some have traditional geometric designs while others are decorated to look like a jack-o'-lantern or a watermelon.

A pysanka with a sun motif in yellow, orange and red with a black background.

Good morning from the farm, fellas and friends. Yeah, it's been a while since I last posted. I haven't had the mental bandwidth to post regularly on one site, much less two. Once again, I'll try to post more consistently here. We'll see how long I can manage this time. 🫠

A winter sunrise with bare trees in the middle distance silhouetted against the sky. High, thin clouds catch the sunlight, painting the sky in blazing gold and purple.

Oh, you thought that acrylic paint was the only medium I worked in? Nope, not by a long shot. 😂 I'm very much a mixed and multimedia artist. So tonight I'm making some wax seals.

Monday art thread 🧵 Last week I was so discombobulated that I didn't feel like painting. I think I'm mostly recombobulated, so I slapped a little paint on a canvas last night. I'm doing things in a different order for this one - decoupage then paint - instead of the gold ground first.

Decided to try something a little different. I'm thinking about making some large ones for the April 5 protests.

Having woods to go for a walk in, wildlife to see, also helps a lot.

It is, and I wish it was normal worry, but at least I know that PTSD lies about how bad shit actually is, and that's what the meds are for. My autistic ass also hates it when what I know and what I feel are at odds with each other. So, I do art. 🤷‍♀️

Morgaine knows where she needs to be today. She makes a really good heating pad, even has a massage feature. 🥰🥹

A cat sleeping on a blanket and her human's legs, covered by a different blanket. She's looks very cozy and content.

Today's new art is a charcoal drawing of Loki napping because someone just had to give everyone a scare because she ate something she shouldn't have and my PTSD fed off of my cousin's PTSD about sick doggos and today went completely to shit. Especially when I smacked the shit out of my hand.

A rough charcoal sketch of a tuxedo curled up in a roundish bed, chin resting on his outstretched front legs.

A blue heeler mix dog lying on the floor like nothing is wrong and she wasn't scaring the shit out of her humans with a tummy ache.

A bruise on the back of my left hand made by a hammer because it's been that kind of day.

Guess which shows I own a physical copy of at least one season of. 🤔😂

Two pewter keychain figurines on a work surface, shot from a very low angle. One is Serenity, the ship from "Firefly" and the other is Baby, the Impala from "Supernatural".

Monday art thread 🧵 Since I didn't really do an art thread yesterday, today I'll post everything here before I do over at The Bad Place. Some pages from my sketchbook. I'm not trying to sketch anything in particular so I listen to music and start making marks and seeing what happens.

Understandable. I'm thankful that since I live in a ruby red state, at least my family has a farm with a few acres of woods so I can get away from the madness when I need to, that I can also share with friends when they need it. And if things go completely to shit, we're not starving.

Yesterday I started my art thread over on Twitter, so today's🧵 is here. To start off, I have the result of yesterday's...uh, joyous exploration of color and whimsy. Yeah let's go with that. Today's weather report is cold and wet, so I will take my own medical advice and stay inside today.

I still feel like I have a sinus & ear infection (I know, imagine that) so while I haven't felt like painting anything, that doesn't mean I'm doing nothing. I'm trying to do more sketching and less doomscrolling. We'll see how that goes. 🤷‍♀️

A photo of an artist's workspace, a photocopy of a photo of an acanthus leaf ornament from a medieval choir screen, and a sketch of the leaf motif.

A sketch of an egg balanced on one end. The egg is also the Earth or a globe, Eurasia and Africa facing the viewer. "l'oeuf du monde" and "ovum mundi" are written to the side.

Yeah, Crohn's is a real pain in the ass. I'm currently in the middle of a second run of antibiotics for an ear infection, so goodbye gut flora.

Meme, a photo of a cat with comically wide eyes. "Having Crohn's flare-up. Terrified of sneezing!"

In the meantime, since I wear headphones most of the time I'm awake, they're usable when I need them until I get new glasses, which I'm hoping will be tomorrow. I'm thinking something similar to these, blue, green, and/or purple tortoiseshell frames. Why not, I've never had fun frames before. 🤷‍♀️

Not the project I had planned on working on this morning, but definitely the one I need to. Guess it's a good thing I also make jewelry. I've already taken a diamond file the area the break occurred (metal fatigue), smoothing off the rough edges. I'll try using jewelry glue first. 🤞

There are several tiers of membership, including a free one. I'm sure a lot of my content on Patreon will be posts on my creative process, more in-depth history ramblings, and even more cat pics. In other words, what I'm already doing, but more. Paid members also get physical thank you gifts, TBD.

If anyone has a few spare Toonies or Fivers they want to send my way to help cover the cost of materials, that's what the Patreon is for. I will continue to donate studies to various fundraisers, plus hopefully start some larger projects now that I have studio space.

Thanks, fellas! A little bit about this particular madness. I'm an actual art historian (BAs aren't useless degrees!) who has been obsessed with Byzantine art for 25+ years. Inspired by Saint Javelin, I decided to paint a physical Saint Javelin icon. And here we are.

Hello new followers! 🫶💙💛 If we've met on other platforms, welcome to my new hangout. For those not familiar, I've been painting modern icons, partly inspired by Saint Javelin, but also my own 25+ year obsession with early medieval and Byzantine art. I'm currently working in mixed media.

I've been playing around with my Saint Michael of the Drones concept on a small scale (5x7 in, 13x18 cm), but today is the day I go big or go home, and since I'm already at home, I guess that means I'm going big - 16 x 20 in inches or about 42 x 54 in the rest of the world.

Some more photos of the blind I was in and the back 40 in general from this week.

A small utility trailer that has been converted into a hunting blind sitting on the edge of a field surrounded by woods.

The view from the hunting blind, a small field surrounded by trees.

An old paddock next to a barn that has become a small, hidden meadow surrounded by trees on 3 sides.
