This disturbs me. An apple from my local market after pealing off the sticker.

I’ve been using a monocular microscope. To get a good image with an iPhone you have to suspend it over the eyepiece at just the right distance. It’s not easy. My son made me this contraption. This picture is really old (dated by the iPhone!) but it might give you an idea of what I mean.

A monocular microscope with a LEGO contraption over the eyepiece that is designed to hold a phone at just the right distance over the eyepiece so you can snap a picture.

I’m kind of the neighborhood pest inspector with my 65 year old microscope and Lego camera mount.

Today is National #StandUpforScience day. Here is my failed contribution. You have to zoom way the $&@#% in.

Zoom in to the back of this ship docked at the port of Oakland. Someone spelled “renee” using shipping containers! Not the first time. Last time I saw this ship it spelled “Jason”. Anyone else see this? #renee #bayarea

A ship loaded with red and green shipping containers, docked at the port of Oakland. If you zoom in you can see that the red shipping containers were deliberately placed to spell the name “Renee”.

A quote from Shapiro in an excerpt from the recent New Yorker about the creation of the dire wolf. “There is no point in bringing the dodo back. Their eggs will be eaten the same way that made them go extinct the first time.” Makes me think we also can’t just go back to a Biden-like presidency.

I was trapped at the poster making table during the rally but my aunt (Vicki Gunter) captured this image at the #standupforscience2025 rally on Friday.

A lone protestor walking away from the crowd holding a sign that is so large you can only see them from below the knees. It reads, “Let’s stop these money grubbing maniacs from wrecking our world”

Science is for everyone! Let’s send a loud message on Friday, March 7th. For Bay Area folks, please join me in SF so we can STAND UP FOR SCIENCE together. Or check standupforscience2025.org to find a rally near you.

“Above all, don’t fear difficult moments, the best comes from them. (trying to convince myself)

An older Rita Levi Montalcini sitting in front of a microscope?

Well this is creepy. I typed the words “CSUEB Foundation” into a docx file stored on my Google drive for perhaps the first time and a few hours later this popped into my inbox:

I guess data supports my intuition regarding entrance exam testing. I may still request keeping it optional. It remains a financial burden.
