There are all kinds of career paths available to a pathologist…
Image of a G.I. JOE action figure of “COBRA industries CEO” featuring a man with white hair and a blue hazmat suit Action figure card back with “laboratory director” highlighted

COBRA INDUSTRIES C.E.O.
Code Name: CESSPOOL™
COBRA
File name: D'Alleva, Vincent A.
Primary Military Specialty: Chief Executive Officer
Secondary Military Specialty: Laboratory Director
Birthplace: Newton, Massachusetts
CESSPOOL was the Chief Executive Officer of a huge multi-national corporation with vast holdings in oil refineries, chemical plants, and mills. In an effort to placate environmental groups, he took them on a tour through one of his chemical plants, where an accidental exposure to the toxic waste left him horribly disfigured. For reparations, he took his knowledge of high-level dirty dealings and corporate subterfuge straight to the COBRA organization. He soon created a weapons grade Plasma-Tox and portable dispersal system.
However, he found that long-term exposure turned some of his men into uncontrollable creatures. He was eventually caught by the G.I. JOE team and incarcerated for many years.
CESSPOOL secretly plotted to find ways to get back at society, and discover an additive that would let him control exposed personnel. Upon his release, he went directly back to where his experiments left off. He now oversees all chemical engineering and custom synthesis of Compound Z at COBRA laboratories. Anyone exposed to this chemical becomes a zombie like drone. He plans to create an army of ZOMBIE-VIPERS and exact his revenge on the world.

Went whale-watching today in Vancouver. Had low expectations based on only prior trip during which we saw no whales. Today, saw orcas breaching, humpbacks breaching, humpbacks lunge feeding. Plurals all appropriate. Took some video, but didn’t react quick enough for the best stuff.

Publicly boasting about the results of your cognitive exam should result in automatic failure of your cognitive exam.

The White House Doctors have just reported that I am in
"PERFECT HEALTH," and that I "ACED" (Meaning, was correct on 100% of the questions asked!), for the third straight time, my Cognitive Examination, something which no other President, or previous Vice President, was willing to take. P.S., I strongly believe that anyone running for President, or Vice President, should be mandatorily forced to take a strong, meaningful, and proven Cognitive Examination. Our great Country cannot be run by "STUPID" or INCOMPETENT PEOPLE! President DJT

Circling back to the original question, confirming one lab test with another is sometimes necessary. Your positive test was probably a screen, and confirming that result with a diagnostic is 100% appropriate. To sum up: screens and diagnostics are “Two Great Tests That Test Great Together”

So, if we start with the strainer, we will catch all the coins and a few of the larger snails. If we then use our highly specific eyes to examine what we strained, we can exclude the snails. We end up with the best result – we bring home all the coins and no snails! 5/n
A cartoon of a beach. A sifter is suspended over the beach, which contains 6 coins. Disembodied eyes appear to be looking at the sifter, and underneath the eyes are 3 large snails which appear to have been discarded. On the beach are 7 small snails, two of which are partially buried.

We could use our eyes to easily find visible coins - we’ll miss buried coins but won’t accidentally grab many snails. Or we could use a strainer which will catch nearly all the coins but also some snails. 3/n

On the beach are 3 coins partially buried in the sand, and 11 snails, 2 of which are partially buried in the sand. A cartoon of a beach. The answer without math: imagine a sandy beach with coins and snails. Ideally, we want to take home all the coins, leaving all the snails at the beach. 2/n

“We survived the first term”
Classic image illustrating survivorship bias shows a WWII era bomber with bullet holes mapped in red. The location of the holes were initially interpreted as the regions which needed more armor, when in reality it’s the areas with no holes that must be critical (because if they are hit there, the plane doesn’t return at all).

TLDR: Tumor mutational burden (#TMB), like polling, suffers from sampling and methodological bias. This contributes to its unreliability as a biomarker, and makes it difficult to harmonize between assays. 20/20

#TMB is only a proxy because the immune system mostly recognizes proteins, not the genes which encode them. If a mutated gene is never expressed as a protein, it shouldn't "count." However, it is much easier to sequence DNA than to globally assess proteins. 3/20
