Goose has been deathly ill until 5 minutes ago so I must inspect, right? Silly Goose had pooped right on top of days-old mountain lion poop. We walked back up to the van. Goose led, his old tail high the whole way. He's had mostly good days ever since.

Then he raised up and I helped him up and out of the van. Goose stood and wobbled for a few and then took a step. And another. Slowly he wobbled left onto the dirt road. It's been 24 hours and he still hasn't peed. 😕 Then he straightened. And then he picked up the pace a bit. Soon I'm jogging...

We have one in Reno at the Biggest Little Dog Park downtown featuring hundreds of local best friends. Little Rhonda had some challenges in life but we loved her just the same.

For John Muir fans: his legacy lives on in the Sierra. Sierra County, CA. This year's sheepherder has four great Pyrenees and two border collies. The Pyrenees defended against a large pack of coyotes last night and a persistent bear this morning.

Sheep graze today while a great Pyrenees protects the flock at the site of Wheeler Sheep Camp, Sierra County, CA.

Reno's Idlewild Park has an amazing collection of diverse, mature trees. This aspen has been here a while. The riverfront pedestrian trail is 5 feet wide. Somehow Reno maintained mature trees throughout the era of clearcutting to support the silver mines. #ThickTrunkTuesday

Turned my son on to the Doctor in all his iterations and he is in agreement with you. And so am I. Couldn't help but get the creeps visiting a local historic cemetery and seeing this.

Yes. Hunger and malnourishment somehow prevail in the world's richest nation.

Reno's VOA dormitory-style housing for the otherwise homeless, with no kitchen, no personal or dedicated wash sinks and shared bathrooms. Overpriced vending machines and microwave cooking allowed in the community room.
Despite multiple food pantries per week stale bread & pastries and overripe bananas only go so far. The majority of residents are disabled. They need additional SNAP, not less.

I had a client once who had suffered a few previous strokes and was taking blood thinners to prevent the next. Then she started bleeding. No one could figure out why she had started smoking again; she hid the fact she couldn’t take the blood thinners anymore. She was gone within three months.

And $40 billion in federal tax subsidies. And then there are the state and local subsidies, your tax dollars, helping Elon Musk make ends meet. But, “the well has run dry” if you need $200 in SNAP to help feed your kids.

The federal government’s main SNAP web page explains “the well has run dry” and in violation of the Hatch Act ludicrously claims Senate Democrats are to blame when Republicans control both houses of Congress and the White House.

The federal SNAP main page says it was updated 10/1 and applies through 9/30/2026. And blames Democrats in the Senate. The page regarding work requirements still says under age 60, not 65, and says it will be updated.

The official federal website on SNAP benefits blames Democrats for discontinuation of benefits while in truth Project 2025 calls for the destruction of supplemental nutrition for those in need. It says, in violation of the Hatch Act:
“Senate Democrats have now voted 12 times to not fund the food stamp program, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Bottom line, the well has run dry. At this time, there will be no benefits issued November 01. We are approaching an inflection point for Senate Democrats. They can continue to hold out for healthcare for illegal aliens and gender mutilation procedures or reopen the government so mothers, babies, and the most vulnerable among us can receive critical nutrition assistance.”

I’m in #Reno and discovered this life-saving box inside a mall today. I was told by security the box is maintained by a nurse who lost her sister, to whom this gift of life is dedicated.
