applying to jobs today, and i cannot hide my frustration. this is supposedly a firm working in mental health. how precisely do you justify absolutely butchering disadvantaged community in order to produce demonstrably worse results? why do we have to keep pretending this shit ain't ass?

"Provide a specific example of how you have used AI-assisted development tools in your work. What tools did you use, what safeguards or validation processes were in place, and what measurable impact did they have on quality, efficiency, or delivery timelines?"

I have attempted to use these tools and I have found that they produce worse results. The science agrees with me: In "Measuring the Impact of Early-2025 AI on Experienced Open-Source Developer Productivity" authored by Joel Becker, Nate Rush, Elizabeth Barnes, David Rein, they determined that while programmers believed themselves to be 24% faster with GenAI assistance, while the data actually showed that they were 19% slower.

This is in addition to numerous other issues, such as spikes in security vulnerabilities, architectural failings, and so on. According to OpenAI, the best that these models can do, as GPUs used and training data approaches infinity, is 60% accuracy. That's a D-. Would you hire a fresh-out-of-college software engineer whose GPA wouldn't even earn them the degree?

What's worse, we are disrespecting the most disadvantaged communities by putting high-pollution generators, and burning the planet up, along with nearly a trillion in venture capital SO FAR in order to subsidize the two major GenAI labs, labs which have no path to profitability, and whose subscription model allows subscribers to burn $1,000/month on tokens while only paying for a $15/month plan. It may have been a while since my undergrad in Economics, but the math on that is pretty simple: Prices will go up, easily to the point where it would make sense to just hire a junior engineer instead. I do my best work without the use of the slop machine, and it is proven that everyone else does too. I wish we would stop having this discussion. I'm sorry if me not drinking Sam Altman's koolaid ruins my chances of getting this job. I otherwise feel like I'm a great fit for you and your mission.
