Interested in how mutations form in DNA, adventure cycling, bioinformatics, and hand-rolled pasta. Professional crud & stuff wrangler, aspiring artisanal software author. Opinions are my own. Unless they're good; then my employer might want them.

Proud to share that our own Clint Valentine co-authored MutSeqR, an open-source R package for analyzing error-corrected sequencing (ECS) data. Developed with Health Canada & U Ottawa, it helps bring consistency to genetic safety research. 🔗 doi.org/10.1093/bioa... #Genomics #OpenSource #MutSeqR 🧬🖥️

I do this! I encode first, and provide a "was UTF-8 encoded" marker in the INFO header so I auto-detect when I've done it and decode when reading. Helpers here: github.com/clintval/tp5... ^ not actually encoding JSON in that tool, but other kinds of structured text with chars that are illegal.

Treat AI agents like junior developers, coaching them through the bigger picture. As reliance on AI agents increases, will we see a hollowing-out of junior devs opportunity for receiving coaching and training? How will new developers cross this chasm in the future without opportunity?

Python is a simple language, but using it isn't always easy. Today I reflected on the following code. To really understand it, one must learn: generators, type hinting, pytest fixtures, advanced usage of fixtures, monkey patching the OS environment, mocking impure environments, generators...

Noticing a lot more genomics and bioinformatics peeps on here recently; welcome! I'm still not seeing a ton of genomics/bioinfo "content", so if there's a curated feed you use please share :).
