Commonly (and unfortunately) for budget reasons! They try really hard to be open hours everyone has a chance to visit, but if they're open 9-6 daily a huge chunk of population can't go at all. But they also can't afford staffing to be open from 8-8 every day, so they stagger based on community need!

- can be a little scary for them at first just because they weren't expecting the click. It's annoying advice but be patient, give LOTS of praise for practice, and be prepared (at first) to feed kitty separately like in a bathroom alone just to make sure they're eating enough during the transition.

Not a feeder, but at our old house I used chip-based cat doors so my oldest babies could get some privacy away from the dog. Spleens took to it quickly but she's always been more curious, but Costco took around a full month before finally leaving my room. The sound they hear when the door unlocks -

In college my friend and I would routinely go eat at the 24-hour diner after a rough day and then head to Walmart to get a pick-me-up plushie at like 4am. Or sometimes Winco, which despite being a 24-hour grocery store also had plushies. And like a spooky vibe at night. I miss that.

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy passed away today according to the House of GG. She was a veteran of the Stonewall rebellion and a lifelong organizer for the safety and dignity of trans people, sex workers, and the incarcerated. She came from the same generation and milieu as Marsha and Sylvia. She was 78.
