Sex is great but have you ever read Bram Stoker's Dracula whilst enjoying dark chocolate tiramisu and a vintage bottle of Pinot Noir in front of a crackling fire in a secluded cottage on the Scottish coast during a raging thunderstorm?

Well, this was a rather bloody nice autumnal wander along the South Downs this morning with my giant dog.

My first Samaritans shift back today, on World Mental Health Day. There’s room for the really difficult stuff, but also for a good chat about cats. Sometimes you need to say things out loud. Sometimes you just need a bit of company. There’s always someone to listen. Glad to be back 💚

Missing my sunset swims & hot tub at my family home already. A few days of tiny island life & excellent food to reset my brain a little, breathe, have a think & make a few mental lists of things I want to do. Quite a nice place to get your shit together, really.

For fuck’s sake. Bake Off opens with Nigella’s chocolate Guinness cake, I used to make this a lot. I now want to invoke my inner Nigella and be all sultry and indulgent about it only I live alone and cannot reasonably eat an entire cake. This is a deeply inconvenient development. Who fancies cake?

Opened the news: people treating migrants in boats as targets, more games studios closing, more grim telly news. Closed it again. Looking away won’t fix any of it, but I can’t take it all in tonight. Going to watch something fluffy and wish people would be fucking better than this.

I think it's absolutely mad that today there's a *national news story* about 400 oil platform workers losing their jobs, and the government being blamed. 25% of the UK TV industry lost their jobs in the last 4 years and we never hear a peep about it! Some jobs are 'real jobs' I guess.

Had my second neurodivergent coaching session today and, alongside psychotherapy, it’s proving genuinely fascinating. Therapy helps me understand the life shit; coaching helps me understand the particular brain trying to deal with the life shit. (1/3)

Black Sheep one of my favourite gloriously stupid horrors is getting a sequel, set 20 years after the original, with more practical sfx, mutant sheep-people and flocks of murderous livestock. I cannot adequately express how pleased I am that cinema is once again addressing the issues that matter.

Dragged from my sick bed to see the brilliant and hilarious Daniel Kitson, whose idea that everything emits a feeling managed to be funny, profound and irritatingly true. Alongside his prolific use of cunt of course. I was mostly emitting mucus, but I felt things too.

300 jobs is the headline. The real story is the decades of production and specialist knowledge walking out the door. TV keeps treating experience as a cost rather than one of its biggest assets, while demanding ever more for ever less. You can’t spreadsheet your way back once it’s gone.

This one hurt. Tim Curry was so much more than Rocky Horror, although Frank-N-Furter will always have a filthy little corner of my heart. Clue, Legend, IT, Muppet Treasure Island a gloriously weird lifetime of roles, with that unmistakable voice, wit and presence. Don’t dream it. Be it. ❤️

I’m not a country music fan, but I’ve always bloody loved Dolly Parton. Unapologetically herself, funny, smart and genuinely kind. From incredibly humble beginnings to an extraordinary life, while quietly giving so much back through philanthropy that often went overlooked. What a woman. What a life.

For some reason my Instagram algorithm is currently very childish humour, gig reviews and repeated videos of a grandpa being yeeted by a bison. Frankly it’s exactly what I needed on a Tuesday morning whilst dealing with panicking production teams.

Grief changes you in ways I don’t think you can really understand until you’ve been through it. It rearranges what matters. Things that once felt important suddenly seem utterly trivial, while people, places and small moments of familiarity become everything.

Today my sisters and I finalised Mum’s headstone in time for her birthday next week. There’s something so painfully full circle about it. One final act of love, wrapped up in the permanence of grief. It’s an incredibly strange, deeply melancholy feeling.
