Last month our non-satirical sister site, Montgomery Fix, posted a video of an abandoned homeless encampment off East Gude Drive in Rockville, showing tons of garbage strewn across an area 25 yards from a Rock Creek tributary. Last week it was cleared after a DHCA violation notice. That's a Fix!

At least one individual was connected with shelter services before the Maryland State Highway Administration cleared this encampment last week in the City of Gaithersburg. Montgomery Fix reported the site to city, county, and state officials in February.

Montgomery County's unhoused population rose 30% in 2024. The crisis now spills onto sidewalks, and backyards. MoCo works to find alternatives and doesn't displace, nor arrest for nuisance crime. The expectations of community vs the needs of the most vulnerable. No easy answers.
