[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 7 - BLOODY TENNIS. Fresh out of Fantastic Fest, this horrific tennis academy tale is mainly inspired by Italian horror, namely SUSPIRIA, with a dash of Julia Ducournou’s RAW.

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 6 - PROM NIGHT (1980). This event-themed slasher was born out of the success of John Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN and feels like it’s riffing on a lot of the same elements of that film. Not to mention Jamie Lee Curtis is in it.

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 5 - THE CABIN IN THE WOODS. This meta examination on the nature of horror films is one of the smartest, most creative takes I’ve seen. The movie provides all the various standard tropes and then spins it to provide something a lot more interesting.

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 4 - THE BABYSITTER. This horror comedy is kinda over the top & features some fun gore & comedic moments with a diverse cast. Samara Weaving plays the charismatic titular character who leads the events of the movie. McG directs, and is arguably one of his better movies.

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 3 - DARK WATER. This supernatural tale isn’t necessarily all that scary, even a little slow, but there is an interesting atmospheric eeriness to it. It plays almost as a psychological drama with horror touches, following a mom fighting for her daughter in more ways than one.

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 2 - THE RENTAL. This Airbnb horror tale comes from the minds of Dave Franco & Joe Swanberg, with Franco making his feature directorial debut. This film swaps the usual horror tension building with the permeating tension created from human dysfunction.

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 1 - GRAVEYARD SHIFT. It’s officially spooky season and to kick it off I watched this Stephen King adaptation that feels dialed up to 11. Everything in this movie feels SO unnecessarily intense.

Mr. Creamjeans Hidey Hole. If you like raunchy and absurd humor or bonkers horror anthologies, keep an eye out for this title in the future. The title is kind of hard to miss. It’s fun. #FantasticFest

Fantastic Fest secret screening #1 was revealed to be an unfinished version of IN A VIOLENT NATURE 2. And since I severely disliked the first movie, I’m bowing out of it and going to choose sleep instead.

Seated for Resident Evil at Fantastic Fest and director Toby Poser is in the seat to my right. Just heard Zach Cregger is also here. I love Fantastic Fest. Just a fun mix of movie fans and industry people. And we all here for our love of film.

So I was just reading one of my Letterboxd reviews I had posted minutes ago to make sure I didn’t have any typos and then a GREMLIN appeared out of nowhere on the bottom of my screen and then just took off. I was reviewing UNDER THE SILVER LAKE so no gremlin connection there. So weird haha

Fantastic Fest is this week and what I want most is to get into VICTORIAN PSYCHO on Friday. I mean I want to see a lot of other movies, don’t get me wrong, but VP is priority number one for me. Plus, fingers crossed Maika shows up. Can’t try for tickets until Thursday, so just waiting patiently… 🎟️

I am a little late to the party but I’m two episodes into PLURIBUS and holy crap it’s good. So far it feels like Vince Gilligan saw whatever version of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS and was like, “yeah but like what happens after the movie ends?”

Been rewatching BABY ASSASSINS 1-3 and the TV show (part 4) with the wife (it’s her first time) and we both agree, Chisato and Mahiro are the absolute best. One of the most heartwarming and beautiful representations of two people who just really love each other.

I’m glad to see DEAD POET’S SOCIETY being released on 4K UHD. But like, why does it need a Steelbook?

Watched the first episode of the new Ted Lasso. I cannot stress how important his character/the show is in the world we live in.

This and can we stop ruining things by selling them to companies to abuse or nosedive. @letterboxd.social is one of the good apps. Why can’t we keep it that way or does man’s proclivity for greed mean we can’t have nice things?

The brand new documentary that @vinsyn.bsky.social produced on their EXPLORERS 4K release is quite good. Very informative retrospective that shows a lot of behind the scenes footage and insights. And found on another great box set from Vinegar Syndrome!

Just watched BABY ASSASSINS for the first time last night and I absolutely LOVED it. The choreography was really fun and the two leads are now among my favorite assassins in cinema. Cannot wait to watch the sequels.

He would not be my pick to do this. If this is Snyder a la his Dawn of the Dead remake era, then maybe. But the incessant upholding of the Snyder-verse, by him and his followers, has me kinda down on Snyder.

Is anyone using any reputable sites for their daily movie news? I seriously miss sites like Birth.Movies.Death and other ones that have died off for various reasons. My main go-to’s now are Dark Horizons, Bloody Disgusting and The Digital Bits (for physical media news).

Never have I ever once thought.. hey, why aren’t there any Fast & Furious TV shows? Well thanks to companies that love to choke their properties to death, four F&F series are in development (one actively) with Diesel stating fans are clamoring for it. After Fast X, that tank of gas is feeling empty.

I’ve been rewatching the Wachowskis filmography. Cemented the fact that I really love CLOUD ATLAS and genuinely surprised how much I really enjoyed JUPITER ASCENDING this time around. I never disliked it but it connected with me more this time. Next up is SPEED RACER (once the 4K disc is released).

This is the reality of QR code ordering at @alamodrafthouse.bsky.social now. And this gentleman had his phone out even longer than this recording (on top of the fact that his phone flashlight was on the whole time too).

Went to see Scream 7 at @alamodrafthouse.bsky.social and the phone ordering is in effect now (which sucks and Alamo should reverse that decision) and they are obviously trying to appease us because we walked out after the movie to employees handing us free cookies. I ain’t that easy Alamo.

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 31 - FRANKENSTEIN. @realgdt.bsky.social ’s take on the classic Mary Shelley story is faithful to the spirit of the original story and its thoughtful contemplation on reckless ambition, creation, humanity, and more. Jacob Elordi as the Creature is a standout here..

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 30 - TALK TO ME. After watching BRING HER BACK earlier this month, I wanted to revisit Danny and Michael Philippou’s first feature film. It’s an affecting and disturbing metaphor on youthful carelessness with drug use.

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 29 - CUCKOO. For horror fans wanting to find more niche horror sub-genres, let me present to you this tale of brood parasitism. On this rewatch, I found a better appreciation for Tillman Singer’s brand of weirdness this time around. It’s atmospheric and at times unnerving.

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 28 - IT. With IT: WELCOME TO DERRY having just premiered its first episode this week, it felt like the appropriate time to revisit Andy Muschietti’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel. Following the Losers Club around 1980s Derry is often entertaining, and often creepy.

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 27 - JENNIFER’S BODY. Diablo Cody’s quirky dialogue & fun characters make for an entertaining romp in this high school horror comedy. Central characters, Needy and Jennifer, find themselves at a relationship crossroads as their friendship deteriorates when Needy realizes..

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 26 - THE MANITOU. This 1978 supernatural horror is entirely a product of its time & is delightfully bizarre. The story kicks off with a woman who has a growing lump on the base of her neck because a 400-year old Native American demon wants to be reincarnated through her.

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 25 - GOOSEBUMPS 2: HAUNTED HALLOWEEN. Like many a child of the 90s, GOOSEBUMPS was highly influential in my burgeoning horror taste. I’ve been and still am drawn to the property and was rather happy when they started making films based on the books.

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 24 - THE UGLY STEPSISTER. I went into this knowing next to nothing and walked out of it having likely found my favorite horror film of 2025. Director Emilie Kristine Blichfeldt’s feature film debut shows such a strong vision, it’s borderline masterful.

[31 DAYS OF HORROR] DAY 23 - THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE. This brand new horror thriller seems to be a bit divisive but I’m in the “it’s good” camp here. Maika Monroe & Mary Elizabeth Winstead both do a fantastic job with their textured characters. It’s fun seeing Maika in a more villainous role.
