I really hope they didn’t just shove Dylan Brock into the side character limbo dimension. I think the last thing modern Venom needs is to shelve the best thing to happen to this character since the mantle was taken away from Gargan. Where is he I hope he’s okay.

Patrick Miller’s blog post overall leaves me a little sick to my stomach, but ultimately the binary he draws between “what we made” and “the TRASH BORING DERIVATIVE PRODUCT that we didn’t make” feels the worst to me.

Like, he talks as though there’s a version of this that exists, and theoretically he’s talking about the 1v1 Project L build, but let’s assume he’s talking about a hypothetical version of 2XKO that launches very similar to our own with a layer or two of complexity peeled back. That’s not gonna break the bank and be the biggest thing for Esports since the invention of the left analog stick.

He talks as though making anything less than what was made would be tantamount to AI generation. “GPT make me a Strive/Granblue/Street Fighter but with League characters” while devaluing what an IP means to a fighter. If we boil down to it, Persona 4 Arena is, in many ways, a Blazblue like, one could make the transition from one to another fairly cleanly. I’d know, that’s me. P4 is not a soulless game as a result. Persona is not Blazblue, and a “Granblue but with Jinx” isn’t Granblue! The idea that such a game would be “unable to reach the top spot”, may be true, but saying this while you’re saying “so what we made actually was sick but it being sick is why it failed” doesn’t lead me to believe he ever thought there was a world where it could have succeeded, sauceless or not.

And maybe that’s the case, but the assertion he makes that this is because they limited the audience by making a sick fucking game is almost overshadowed by the fact that Riot made it impossible to actually give them money. If I want a Jinx skin, and the rotating shop asks if Teemo/Darius/Ahri/Ahri will do, I return to training mode and Riot doesn’t get my $20.

I completely understand if he’s bitter, if he doesn’t like the development side of the genre or especially Riot, but when he acknowledges that hard games (even mentioning League and MVC) can be successful, and then jumps back to “but this game failed because it was too fucking sick” ultimately makes him just sound bitter to me.

Hard Baja Blast! It just keeps getting worse and worse. This thing was fine. Again, no buzz, so I judge it on flavor, and Baja is such a strong and distinct one that you can’t fuck it up and call it a good drink. Thin, weak, not unpleasant but nothing I’m clawing to have again.

Hard Mtn Dew! This was just alright. Lower alcohol content meant I didn’t feel shit throughout this whole thing, straight up. It just tasted like what I imagine diet Mtn Dew would taste like with the bitter undercurrent of alcohol at the end. Lame but ultimately fine.

Chi-Hi Jpop! This thing fucked, I loved it. White Peach flavored, got me buzzed halfway through the can. If I drank it too fast, the peach flavored left me with only the taste of rubbing alcohol and I had to drink water to refresh the flavor, little “built in” moderation there. 6.5 alcohol content.

I’ll be real I don’t see enough love for Bridget’s +R design. It’s an excellent way to get a more lighthearted, cute character to fit in the sorta gothic, heavy world GG was at the time. Xrd and Strive lean way more, like, sci-fi fantasy and stuff. Also I like her posing more in +R fight me

I see a lot of people talk about how bad 2025 was for fighting games, and from my perspective that’s not true? Things had problems for sure, but most things in life do. Maybe I’m more accepting of them, but I think the only real misses were City Of The Wolves (not its fault) and the MK collection
