I’m re-reading Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot, and found this beautiful ode to library books in his Author’s Note:

I remember that Stratford library book clearly and with great affection. It had that comfortably sprung, lived-in look that library books with a lively circulation always get. Turned page corners, a dab of mustard on page 331, some reader’s spilled after-dinner whiskey on page 468. Only library books speak with such wordless eloquence of the power good stories hold over us. How good stories abide, unchanged and mutely wise while we poor humans grow older and slower.

I find it so irritating that writers just don’t pitch their books anymore. Cover reveals and all they’ll tell you are the tropes in the book. If you have a book coming out and nowhere in your social media is there anything resembling a blurb or a pitch, you’re doing your book a disservice
